But doesn't Muzan determine the rankings and how much blood he shares?

Yes, but not all demons can acclimate to the amount of blood needed to be an Upper Rank. Most of them can't handle it and die. Nakime was already useful for being able to create and control the Infinity Castle, so I assume Muzan wasn't desperate enough to risk her dying until he lost half of the Upper Ranks,

Demon Slayer has devolved into a parody of itself that believes that enough slow-motion and distracting VFX additions will make fans freak out regardless of context

I think they might be correct in thinking that. Because to be honest.. I really enjoy watching the great animation and effects. It elevates a plain scene into something entertaining in the way fireworks elevates a festival from a shopping arcade. Many people enjoy said moments, even when its just Hashira sparring.

Now if the scene was tone death and jarring against the pacing of the show I think I could agree with you. But compared to pushing rocks I found the sparring session a highlight of the last three episodes. To be honest I think these sparring session being more readable compared to big boss battles make them better to watch then when the latest top 8 demon dies.

Granted the back end of episode 7 UFOTable bought their A game to the table but that still doesn't make up for 2 episodes of what amounted to not even 3 pages of the original manga.

3 episodes could have been condensed in to one and this arc would have been much better for it but NOOOOOO we've got to drag it out for the sake of selling an extra blu-ray volume in Japan.

EDIT - I bet someone with video editing skills could cut and remix those 3 episodes in to a cut down single episode version with montages that would make this season much more palatable to watch.

Can we get 1 hour edit of Muzan walk please? (alternating between him going normally and then backwards since Michael Jackson memes)
Or maybe even a 10 hour one would be better.

Looking back at this episode, one thing that kinda bothered me was the child's decision to destroy the wisteria incense. If it is indeed as effective as they say, wouldn't the better option be to use "destroy the incense" as a pretense to actually hide inside the temple with the incense still active? I suppose the child wasn't exactly in the right state of mind to think of such a thing especially when his life is in literal danger.

This also begs the question as to how effective wisteria even is against demons. We haven't really seen it used a whole lot in the show & if wisteria incense is enough to drive demons away, then why don't the demon slayers incorporate it into all their equipment? Why is the Insect Hashira the only one using it? They could cover themselves with wisteria perfume or something for extra protection or coat all their swords with wisteria for an even deadlier offense.

Just doing some quick napkin math: the season finale is roughly 40 minutes. The reiteration of Muzan walking to the opening credits is about 2.5 minutes, and the credits at the end were about 5.5 minutes. That means approximately 8 minutes, or 20% of the runtime, is dedicated to Muzan walking and the end credits.
For comparison, let's assume the average 24 minute episode uses 3 minutes of runtime for the opening/ending (1.5 minutes each). That's only 12.5% of the runtime.

To be clear, I liked the actual meat of the episode quite a bit, but I can't help but feel like my time was wasted.

For all that, I cared very little about the Demon Slayers boss. So while it was a big bombastic setup, it also felt kinda hollow. Especially since we never got to know most of the key stake holders in the main plot of this series. IE Muzan, Demon Lady and the Demon Slayer Boss. I cared far more about that half an episode of good content with nezuko at the end of last season then the entirity of this season.

PS if fortress lady can effecticly force teleport every single person she sets eyes on she could be far more deadly then she is being. Just look at Kumoko and her moments of teleporting a boss into a lava zone, teleporting a seas into a sealed arena to drown people and dropping people 3km's into the air. Teleport as a skill is extremely deadly if you can define the entrance and exit points.

There are also all kinds of unanswered lore questions regarding Kibitsu's (whatever) family. Like why his daughter behave like dolls and ignored abuse, why did they tolerate greater demons slaughtering entire clans of candidates and all sorts of other small things it put into its universe and then ignored.

Why is this guy reviewing Demon Slayer again? He’s clearly a big hater. Nothing he says is in good faith.

He’s the extreme opposite of a fanboy. Can we get someone more neutral? Over someone just trying to generate clicks with his awful reviews. This ain’t it.

The recent review killed me with "are they gone?" and then moving to his honest feelings about the result of the training. Honestly, the first episodes of season 1 had Tanjiro training mostly alone except with Tomioka's friends. I don't remember well the length of the training scene in the manga but by the first volume's ending Tanjiro had become a badass swordsman. Then again, I've been always confused by Tanjiro's health. The flaming style apparently forced him to fight in the middle of a fever once and no matter how much he trained his endurance, I think the poor guy fell into a coma twice. I think only Big Boss from Metal Gear has fallen into a coma more times. Now I'll shut up since the next content has yet to be adapted.

Though it dragged (as is usually the case with Demon Slayer), I still enjoyed this mini season more than swordsmith village

Funniest part of the finale was when Ubayashiki is spilling his sad backstory and Muzan just goes, "That does nothing for me emotionally." Like, thanks for helping me write my review, I guess.
