For those wondering, the teaser for the next part of the season, shows the meeting that was teased in the ending of the current episode.
Quote: | I wasn't really expecting the Seven Old Guys to put up much of a fight, but were they just written out without any kind of reason for why they went against Luminous's desires? |
It's explained a bit better in the LNs. Basically, they were Luminus' OG clergy followers and as a reward for their loyalty Luminus kept them young. However, at some point in time she just forgot about it leaving the seven days susceptible to the machinations of the Rossos. The background for the Rosso's should be one of the last episodes in the current season and would neatly wrap up the LN arc, before diving into the much bigger stuff that's going to happen with the east.
However, depending on how they want to structure it, this could also very well happen in the next season, as there's still the Tempest festival happening, which was teased in the latest visual.
Quote: | I was not expecting Hinata to come off so cute and was that...flirting between her and Rimuru? I'm not sure how to take that. |
There's a reason for her bahaviour, and it's explained later in the novels. However, I can guarantee you, that there's nothing romantically going on and she sees in him the father figure she never really had in her youth. On the other hand: Cloe/Corona is another thing.

All you people keep complaining about how there's no action. You really do be forgetting what kind of character Rimuru is. Go watch some mainstream shonen if you want action every week.

Quote: | It's nice to have someone call out Rimuru on all his cheat skill BS—especially another Japanese person like Hinata. |
This was actually pretty satisfying for me when I read it years ago. Finally someone calls him out on how broken his cheats are and the fact that he's had it easy after just 2 years in that world while others like Hinata struggled for much longer to get where they are now because they don't have the same advantages and circumstances he does

The funniest part is that he's so broken because he has the Great Sage, and he has the Great Sage because... while dying he thought that since he was a 40 year old virgin, rather than a wizard he's a sage.
Although I'll agree with another post that it's a bit... like that when Rimuru (or rather Raphael) has to come up with some broken bullshit to get out of a prickly situation while forgetting he still has like half a dozen other broken bullshits he could have used instead.

Lol yeah. What started as a gag turned into the most broken (and laziest) abilities ever but I admit I enjoy the interactions between them

Slime has never been about kingdom building. Yes it has a kingdom in it and many loyal servants, but not once has it engaged in thoughts about resources, the needs of industry or the most needed element of a kingdom building show: Scarcity. Tempest always can feed the tens of thousands of citizens it takes in every time it gets new monsters species, and it never has to take territory or resources in order to supply them. It doesnt even have to put effort into it magically to override the needs of a nation.
The best we get is the showing off a new inventions to replicate Japan and a safe Japanese society.
Nor has it engaged in any kind of politics outside of agreeing to be good to each other in board meetings with allies. No establishing of local government systems and / or rulers and the subsequent needing to balance the needs of the people vs those in power.
Instead it is about setting up tensions between opposing forces over the success of trading with tempest. Thus board meetings to explain it each time a new one happens.

At the very least I feel like the meetings in this episode were improved by adding some fresh faces and people who bring a different perspective than "sasuga Rimuru-sama" because having multiple meetings with Rimuru and his yes-men just regurgitating what we already know gets old fast.
We've got Rosso and Yuuki orchestrating things from behind the scenes but is there really any point when it feels like everything they send at Tempest gets repelled back or easily defeated? Tempest can just sick Shion at something and she'll easily take care of it. Even the threat of the Angels, which Luminus is actually worried about, just warrants a shrug from Rimuru.
Thank goodness HInata was there to prevent Rimuru from completely discarding Yuuki as one of the masterminds.
I honestly had forgotten Rimuru couldn't get drunk but it makes sense. Not that Raphael will ever let him get away with it again lest he give away more state secrets.

Never said it was the main focus... it was just what I like the most of the show.
That is why I liked Slime Diaries more than the main thing.

The episode just aired is the closest we get to Kingdom building. Rimuru coming up with ideas and those ideas all doing really well but also causing the next series of bad events to fire.

Probably the most interesting thing to me in these recent episodes is that Hinata has the same inner voice helping her with skills etc. I guess I thought Great Sage was unique to Rimuru, and it is seemingly the same entity. Is Hinata's Raphael now? Also, there doesn't seem to be any interference with events that could happen if say both of them got told the same thing and might have avoided the fight. I guess this talk about angels and someone named Raphael has got me wondering.

From the review (Episode 60):
Quote: | No joke, a few minutes into this episode, I actually paused it and checked to make sure I was watching Tensura and hadn't clicked a random episode of The Slime Diaries by mistake |
Ha, I know exactly what you mean. I thought the exact same thing, that is was like they dropped an episode of Diaries into the main series.

Well, looks like we're in full-blown festival meeting prep mode for the future festival arc and political meetings.
The new OP and ED are both very colorful and cute.
And yeah, this does feel more like Slime Diaries than the main show, but at least that makes all the meetings and transitions more interesting and fun compared to the first half. I can't help but think the author does better with world-building SoL than any attempt at doing a serious plot with stakes.
It's going to be hilarious if Yuuki actually comes to the festival.
Nice to see some old friends you'd probably have forgotten unless you'd done a recent rewatch.
