As cool of a fight as it was, I have always disliked when they introduce a powerful new character to then shortly afterwards kill him or her off. As it is the first two episodes' main purpose was to give the heroes a bit more time and information while also making sure the other countries do not come to help. I consider the latter to be a real pity, I would have liked to see more foreign heroes.

S7, 1–2:

To be honest, I wasn't that bothered by what happened to Star. But the part that marred the fight was just how blatantly "shounen" the fight was.

If you have watched your fair share of shounen anime, you would know that in every fight, there is going to be some kind of "intellectualized shounen-splaining" involved. You know, the whole analyzing and breaking down the fight, explaining the rules (whatever they are) and how a strategy or two backfires. There's no exception to it; every shounen is guilty of this, and yes, JJK was guilty of this too. Some of it is okay; it would make a fight more satisfying after all.

The problem with Stripe's New Order is that I still haven't grasped her Quirk. For a show with really weird Quirks, hers is pretty up there. Every time she makes a strategic move, the show painstakingly explains (with animated graphics!) the "rules" of her powers and how Shigaraki cancels them out. Mind you, this was already happening when we were trying to understand how her power works! By the time I managed (somewhat) to wrap my head around Stars's Quirk, she was already out.

Of course, I would have loved to see more of her, but the pacing of this otherwise climactic battle was mismanaged. The show spent several seasons exploring everybody's Quirks, and how much airtime did America's Strongest Hero get? Two episodes.

I understand the need for a plot device, but man, you could have made it more worthwhile.

Oh right, with all of the chaos of the last season I had kind of forgotten all about the traitor. At one point I suspected the invisible girl yet that seemed a bit too on the nose. Well, it may provide a chance to catch the villains off guard, though with scrotum face you never know for sure.

Hmm, I don't know what to feel about this one.

We knew that there was a traitor in the UA. Even so, when it was revealed who it was, it felt more like a whimper than a bang.

My Hero Academia: "The traitor is... HIM!"
Intended response: "*GASP* WHAT!? It can't be...!"
Actual response: "Oh... erm, really?"

There's just no buildup to it. Even if a buildup is one of the most clichéd devices in storytelling, especially when presented in a plot twist, it creates the intended effect on the audience that it is someone unexpected and the revelation creates a plot quake with significant consequences. It is someone unexpected, but since there is no buildup to it like this completely came out of nowhere, I just feel like this is pulled out of someone's butt. I don't mean it this way, but that's really how it feels to me.

This character went under the radar for quite a while (perhaps intentionally, perhaps unintentionally, but to good effect, actually) and was swept away quietly. And then the show decides to bring him back but as the traitor we heard some time ago. Just felt anticlimactic overall. But it seems like his being the traitor is secondary to how he plans to redeem himself and become a real hero.

Yeah, by dragging the traitor business out of the closet without any proper build up it is hard to feel much of anything. That said, it does seem like it is the thing that will make victory a possibility and at least they addressed the subject (I honestly expected it to never be mentioned again).

Otherwise it truly seems like we are heading into the final fight. That makes me feel both excited and anxious. I am sure that many exciting battle will commence, yet it will be a loooooooong final war.

Going on a tangent, but if this is indeed the grand finale, which I'm feeling like it is, then I'm happy.

I notice that the shounen genre is known for dragging titles beyond their shelf life, and I never believe in this. I personally believe that every title deserves to end and get their proper closure. My Hero Academia (the anime adaptation, that is) has been around since 2016, and it's been more than 140 episodes, so if we're finally on the home stretch, I'm all for it.

Well, given episode 5 things are getting so final that it is hard to not be sure that we are slowly heading towards an end. The real question is what sort of fight it will be given that the previous large scale conflict made clear that deaths are very much possible on both sides.

Going to take a stab here. Two, actually?

All For One wondered how he couldn't detect the lie by Aoyama and his parents? spoiler[Shinso's Brainwashing might have something to do with it.]

All For One also wondered how UA got Kurogiri to cooperate? spoiler[Maybe he didn't cooperate. Monoma's Copy was used to replicate his power.]

There is something a little familiar about a bunch of heroes coming through portals to backup the main good guy hero taking on the big villain, but I cannot think what. Regardless of it does feel a bit like they are in the Endgame.

Bleach has a few moments similar to that. I am curious who the real end villain of the show/war is going to be. So far Tomura has been pushed forward as the new generation's main villain yet it feels more like All for One is in the driver's seat.

I mean, it's obvious the show has been portraying the main villains as the result of tragic circumstances. Shiragaraki's family was a real piece of work, Dabi's dad was the "Father of the Year", Toga's family thought she was a monster, Spinner was shunned by society. Even the late Twice was a victim: of his own Quirk.

Both Midoriya and Uraraka hinted how they both saw that Shigaraki and Toga were mistreated all of their lives, Shouto understands where his dad screwed up in raising Dabi, Spinner has doubts about whether he's doing the right thing. Twice knew what he was doing was wrong. Villains they are, but once upon a time, they were not bad people.

The only main villain without a tragic past is All For One; he outright mentions that he uses people to his advantage. Who's to say he's not doing the same with the main villains too?

Well, from the look of things the final fight will have plenty of time to handle those topics. I gotta say though, it is amazing to see what a vast number of people with all kinds of different quirks can make possible. The chosen strategy only works by combining the potential of hundreds of different quirks and making the most of them. The plan has gone pear shaped before it barely begun though, I do not think the group minus Deku will be able to handle the perfected form of Tomura.

On a side note, bunny girl is getting smacked around.....again.

Yup, just as I thought.

This will be a very drawn-out fight, and the show has plenty of episodes to spare. We're in for the long haul, people.

I wonder which group Spinner ended up in.

Yeah, after the newest episode it is clear that things will progress very slowly and with things like flashbacks and what not it is going to be a very very long war/fight. I might switch over to watching every few episodes or so because of that.
