I was too busy refreshing my Steam library for the download Thusrday night to pay any attention to "the discourse," but I think people are forgetting Dragon's Dogma history. The original had helper item microtransactions and day 1 DLC on top of that (NPC hairstyles, additional pitch bends for voices, and the really silly anime colors for skin, hair and eyes). That was fairly standard for RPGs in the PS3 days, including White Knight Chronicles, the Dragon Age games, and the Tales series. Dark Arisen, which didn't, has been Skyrim'd all over the place in the decade since with most extra items baked in (minus the Berserk collab outfits, which were part of the base game and remain PS3 exclusive), so most players getting into it later never actually got the full experience. I didn't even bat an eye when I saw them listed, but of course people would suddenly decide that this game is the straw that broke the camel's back. Hell, Capcom just patched the availability of character remake items this morning, so you're no longer limited to 2 per run, so they're clearly dedicated to the overall experience over some tiny bump to their bottom line on this one.
As for the games themselves... Masterworks all, you can't go wrong.

I do not like DLC and never used them and always found them useless in single-player games. Did anyone buy those potions in Bravely Default that filled your gauge? I found the game easy enough ithout using it that I can not understand why anyone would buy them.
My main concern hearing about Dragon's Dogma 2 was the performance issues and the inability to make a new character or start a new game which just seemed like a strange thing to not allow someone to do. I hear the recent update lets people start new games though. No idea why that was shut off until today.

Obligatory “let’s add it in, post”.
Now let’s maybe fix the optimization issues (somehow) and add QoL improvements fixing the more jank mechanics of the game while hopefully not creating anymore new problems.

Made sense but not accepted still?

What a wierd example because I'm replaying Bravely Default right now . And yes, you don't need to buy those potions. But that is more because the mechanic they fuel isn't necessary to beat the game.
For those not aware, there was a time pause mechanic (called bravely second, (BS)) that could let you perform massive damage exceeding the 9999 damage limit. To use this mechanic you had to spend Sleep Points (SP).
There were only two ways to get SP:
"When the Nintendo 3DS is put into Sleep Mode with the game active, the player will gain 1 SP for every 8 hours of Sleep Mode, up to a maximum of 3. Should the player not desire to wait, SP Drinks can be purchased using real currency through the game. When used, each drink increases SP by 3."
So yes, this microtransaction wasn't necessary but you are absolutely not going to perform BS regularly unless you spend real world money. It is still scummy that they are in the game and it colors my impression of the series now that i replay them and remember it. Also, Bravely default 2 left out both the mechanic and the microtransaction, confirming that it was only there to nickel and dime players.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten all about those bullcrap BPs! Yeah, those were an absolute rip-off. I will cop to actually using the BPs in-game, but I never actually bought any of the recharges. I just let the timers run out. Couldn't you also buy villagers for the weird in-game village mini-game too? I know that one also ran off a timer. I'm glad to hear they took them out of Bravely Second, they were a dumb mechanic and Square Enix rightfully took a ton of heat for it.
