The manga was already effectively on hiatus, because the author got caught in a legal controversy, having been found to have defamed a fellow author Yani Neko(Nyan Nyan Factory) in November last year.
As I understood the story, both had been competing for the Next Manga Award, and while Yani Neko placed 12th, he didn't place at all. The defamation charges were about what happened next, he wasn't happy that a simple gag manga had triumphed over his and went after Yani, and he allegedly created several online accounts for that purpose. When the government went after the IPs used in the harassment, he got scared and tried to offer money to the other party for the issue to go away. Which didn't work...
Still, RIP.

Was any of this(besides the "RIP")necessary in a thread about someone's passing?

If that narrative is to be believed, then what a wild series of circumstances. Envy leading to sowing hatred, then reaping said hatred and then sudden death.
Just wow. Still RIP to the young man.

It does provide context regarding the current state of the manga, which I personally was curious about. Not exactly something I was pleased to read about though.

Well given that extra context, It sounds like was a suicide, hence no cause given.
Still sucks though. Always sad to see someone young die in the prime of their career. RIP
