I hope we get more remakes announced this year.

Sorry, most people simply won't get out of their way to watch old adaptations, regardless of their quality.

True, but unfortunately, many of the remakes I've watched chose to speedrun through what the original anime already adapted, so I feel bad for new folks who will experience a condensed version of great stories. I'm hoping that doesn't happen this time, but I'm fully prepared.

I'm unsure if I should watch the old version, this new one, or wait for opinions about the new one before deciding what to watch... ^^'

You gotta see the old one. The dub is phenomenal and the animation looks way better than the remake so far.

Myself, I'm gonna watch every 2000s S&W anime this Weekend.
Well, first season will be a rewatch though.

IMO, remakes are never really replacements, but simply new versions.

Even if they adapt the same material, they are still their own thing, made in different eras.

Different experiences.

I'm sorry, I was already a bit tired of the remake debates, 3 spice and wolf threads ago... but I just don't think this is how anime newbie's treat remakes... In reality, having a remake actually gives choice paralysis, and makes you have to look up complicated watch orders. Especially when original adapts chapters N to M while remake adapts chapters N to X, skips Y then continues from Z....

I ultimately think, people are less likely both to watch an anime if it's a remake and to retroactively watch an anime which is later remade.

EXACTLY, you're proving my point. You can't just jump in once there's a reboot. You have to look it up. Regardless of if you go by in story order or release order. Often reboots are titled so ambiguously they could be sequals or spinoffs. You HAVE TO look it up, you can't just watch it on a whim. And that's a barrier to entry.

It is only a barrier if one is stupid, or lazy to take a minute or two google it.

In that case watching anime should be the least of their problems.

I'll watch the reboot, still not sure why this is a thing. Would rather see a continuation, or a series featuring spoiler[their daughter].

Highly doubt they'll have an OP that beats Season 1's original OP Tabi no Tochuu

Added spoiler tags. Errinundra.

Huh, so they will adapt that arc also. I will watch it anyway despite watching the old one (and I continued reading the LNs, currently on vol. 9).

But in some cases remakes can be significantly superior to the original, e.g., Furūtsu Basuketto (Fruits Basket).

You are misunderstanding why fans are disappointed. Speaking for me, I’m not disappointed that it’s being remade, I’m disappointed that we are not getting anything NEW. There at least 2/3rds of the light novels that has not been animated. Instead of digging into this and introducing new characters, the old stuff is being rehashed. I’ve already seen this and it was done really well the first time.

That can happen, yes, but personally, I always give everything a chance when I choose certain original creator.

The old anime is around 15 years old; regardless of how much you, or anyone else liked it, and think it still holds up, this new adaptation is a complete reboot that aims to be its own thing.

I'm sorry for your dissapointment, but what can I tell you, learn to be patient - if successful, this remake will eventually adapt content that wasn't animated yet.

Myself, one of the biggest reasons I love remakes is when I see, and compare the exact same material animated in different way.
So, I guess I am luckier than you.
