I grew up watching the dub, so I have no history or connection with the original JP songs, but listening to this Koji Wada had a pretty distinctive and interesting voice, huh? The medley is also very well done, I loved the jump back to the original series OP for Tri.

They made a new movie last year and all of the original movies are getting rereleased uncut in North America.

Re-releasing the movies with an uncut dub is a pretty big deal.

I wouldn't classify that as a big deal. That really only appeals to a very specific niche audience of people who only care about the English dub of Digimon and refuse to watch any of the anime subbed which have been available for decades now for some reason. Anyone who lives outside of the US, let alone those who live in the US and follow the Japanese version of the franchise, it's not really news. But as far as universal news goes, there's also the new 25th Color Digivices they're putting out.

Maybe in the US. Nobody else cares about the Digimon English dub. And even then, not a real big deal.

As someone who'd wanted to buy the series uncut on disc (and in the best quality possible) for over 20 years, getting the first 3 movies SUBBED uncut is a really big deal for me. It is pretty disingenuous too to say "oh no one cares about dubs!" because the market is much bigger than anyone would think and not "just a US" thing. There's kind of a reason dubs are even done at all, as expensive as they are.

As for NEW content, no they really did all their big announcements last year with the 02 movie release, manga, and web novel.

I grew up watching the Latin American Spanish dub which was closer to the original Japanese and adpated the original OP and ED songs into Spanish, pretty well I might add, so hearing Buttler-Fly, Target, Biggest Dreamer and Fire! brings me tons of memories

I don't think Bandai and Toei will stop making more Digimon project for the future. Perhaps they don't have anythink to show yet. But I think I've heard that Bandai is developing more games at least

The video fills me with nostalgia, and also reminds me that I still need to check out some of the recent stuff.

Let me save you some time: with the exception of Ghost Game, which is a great series, but not a great DIGIMON series, don't bother. The reboot of Adventure is ABYSMAL in pacing, story, characters, and pretty much everything except animation (sometimes). While the rest after Data Squad are mediocre at best.

Incidental since I don't have any screenshots, but the Adventure dub BD was pretty consistently on a top seller on Right Stuff for quite a few months, even placing higher than the subbed BD when that was new, and the the point Discotek just finished another printing of the dub because it wold so well. On top of that, when Discotek broke the news about the movie dub it was talked about more than the new Beginning movie trailer released later that day. The dub is actually big deal, and the fact that the movies are finally getting legal subs is a big deal. Everyone wins.

Appmon is peak Digimon but it does take forever to really get rolling - definitely worth a watch.

I'm not sure that's an accurate way to judge. I imagine anyone who is a fan of the sub already saw it ages ago and has no reason to buy an official release. I personally have no desire to, at any rate. But I imagine the dub release is valuable to fans because it might be the only way to get a good quality version of the dub.

Butterfly will forever be the best Digimon song. Never gets old. Out of all the Digimon songs, Butterfly is the song most played on karaoke charts every year. Started as Adventure's ED song in the movie (which was beautiful) before appearing in the sequel TV anime as its OP.

I love how Butterfly took up the first 1 min 15 secs (plus Adventure took up nearly 40 secs while the others were shorter) of a 3 min 42 sec video then also took up the last 41 secs. Butterfly is Digimon. GOATed song.

What's disappointing about the video is that Adventure (movie) and Bokura no War Game weren't shown. Those movies are masterpieces and have impacted future Digimon releases even in video games. They could have fit them in.

To the bold: That has nothing to do with the 25th anniversary (coming from Japan) the original user mentioned. Discotek were the ones to announce the movies and have been pushing it. It hasn't been acknowledged by Toei. Also, the new movie's JP BD release was shown in the 25th anniversary of Digimon anime Digimon Con event so that is a 25th anniversary product. You're inserting.

Actually, it isn't a big deal. Read my response above. It's fine for you to be happy about it, but its not a 25th anniversary product.

I bought the sub, and that one also seemed to have sold very well. It's the best quality available, on top of things. This reminds me of a certain game series that came out where "oh well, everyone that wanted to play it already played the fansubs" and then it went on to sell a whole bunch, receive reprints, and still be sought-after and worth a lot on the secondary market. It's the usual "*I* didn't want to and don't understand why others would". Of COURSE there's people out there that watched it ages ago would like a physical copy. Why buy blu rays at all, for that matter?

It might not be an *Official* 25th product, but these things were announced last year alongside stuff like the manga, novel, etc which were a part of the 25th project. It might be a western-only news bit, but was still last year, and despite claims of "nobody wants this", yes, clearly they do, and was still very talked about online as a trending conversation.

For a more narrow answer, this 25th event was more a celebration than wanting to announce the state of the franchise. There's supposedly a new game being worked on, but I'm sure they didn't want to do what they did with Survive and announce it too early.
