By the end of the year, after they have fired everyone else, it'll just be the CEOs, each taking a dump on their own solid gold toilet, wondering why that AI thing hasn't made them billions yet.

You are morally and factually incorrect and I curse your feeble bloodline. Dynamax and Tera have also attracted scores of balance complaints with various Max Moves wreaking havoc in doubles and battles with Tera usually coming down to who Terastallizes second.

I can't wait for new Megas to give some Pokemon new opportunities for use, and maybe get to run some of my old faves like Mega Gallade.

Megas were certainly my favorite gimmick and it's a darn shame they got rid of them. I also liked the way they were handled in the anime and were treated as something actually dangerous and painful for them which added interesting story dynamics. And I guess because it gave me lots of Digimon vibes of being a temporary power-up evolution and they could go back to their base form afterwards.

Video games are making more money than ever and boasting sales figures like never before—and yet studios still report losses and require mass layoffs to remain solvent.

I liken it to the comic book industry. The industry can appear to be doing fine until you look and see most of the industry is made up of Dav Pilkey's books and manga and most of the other companies aren't doing so hot and those are the ones suffering layoffs. The games that are making record profits are the Fortnites and similar popular live-service games. Inflated budgets are certainly an issue and you would think raging successes like Lethal Company, Palworld and Helldivers 2 would be a wake up call to some people but I suppose even if they do learn from them it'll take a few years for them to shift over from their current plans to an approach like that.

Spider-Man 2 apparently was not very profitable for Insomniac because it had over twice the budget the first game had, and since it didn't sell as much as the first game did, well, there you go. The Last of Us 2 was in a similar boat from what I remember. They even had to cancel all the DLC for that one and then fall back on re-releasing the first game.. again.. and again. It seems like a big issue is companies put out a game people generally like and actually buy like the first The Last of Us and Spider-Man, and then they somehow muck up landing the sequel. And the other companies put out games nobody wanted in the first place like Saints Row and Suicide Squad.

The handling of PSVR2 reeks of how its predecessor, and even the Vita before it were handled. If it doesn't shoot out the gates, Sony loses interest in it. Closing a studio dedicated to VR, and potentially opening it up to PC, is just telling people not to bother. Sure, having it be compatible with PC titles would open up more games, but they also said the difference in hardware meant simple ports of VR1 titles weren't possible. We've already had studios say it didn't make financial sense to do a VR2 remake of VR1 games, so I doubt anyone will be eager to do that if the hardware sales weren't there as is.

Yuzu has some problems it will need to address. Some things like that get a pass because nobody is financially benefiting, but having a Patreon makes it easier for Nintendo to say those donors would otherwise be Switch customers. People being able to play brand new games early also lends some credibility to that. If it was just old games that are otherwise unavailable, it would be easier to say, "no harm, no foul."

It's also worth pointing out that Zygarde isn't just supposed to just be the Z-equivalent, its also supposed to keep the ecosystem in check. It was supposed to prevent Yveltal and Xernas from fighting amongst one another (which it achieved for the most part, unlike say the Weather trio in Hoenn for instance) potentially implying another set of three legendaries they they would feud against. A to C perhaps?

I can't recall where I read it but around XY's release, there was a lot of theories running around that XY had a lot of content cut and given how stuff like Santalune Woods is 1/1 to Viridian Forest, I'd believe it. Because XY and ORAS as a gen didn't get expanded on, there's a ton of stuff that seems half baked. They didn't even get all their Event-stuff distrubuted. People were expecting to get that AZ-centric Floette too since AZ's just shows up at the end without any expansion on.

I have seen people claim we're not going through a crash. Those people are idiots. Just because it's not a 1983 level cataclysm doesn't mean it's not a crash. This should not be happening, not with record profits and sales and especially not when the money saved from not paying these people is a sliver for these companies. It's just pathetic.

Also, we are now at the one year anniversary of Naoki Yoshida causing huge swaths of the gaming press (mostly white guys) to lose their minds by simply saying "I find 'JRPG' to be an othering term." God, that was fascinating to witness as people came out of the woodwork to downplay the 7th Gen's racism.

Anyway, I got Splatoon 3's Side Order to tend to

I am once again tapping the sign that says "In America, companies must actively police their copyright." The instant the wrong person sees the wrong thing, it has to be nuked from orbit or else the company being harmed could lose their rights to ownership. I don't necessarily read anything more into the C&D letter until it's been confirmed the case is going to trial.

I'm very late to this but, welcome back Jean-Karlo.

Sadly since this article was written up theres been more companies and more layoffs in the gaming sphere -_- I hate greed. The Gov needs to step up and make this kind of thing illegal. When u rake in profits u should not be allowed to lay off people. Its scummy, its wrong.

Johto legendary trio: the... dogs? People call them "dogs," but they seem more cat-like to me.
Beasts. Beast Trio. Thats what they're called in Japan from my understanding and is the more accurate description for them given they're all based on dif creatures such as a Leopard (Suicune), a Saber tooth Tiger (Raikou) and I guess Dog? I forget who Entei is based on but suffice to say they are not simply just dogs or cats. IIRC they also have other elements thrown into their design to further make that more apparent but fan base in English speaking territories for some weird reason only saw dog...

a new Pokémon Legends spin-off!
... just like LA, LZA is a main series Pokemon game confirmed for both games by the Pokemon company.

Quote:
And following up on the open-world aspect of the Legends games, it'll be fun to see a bustling metropolis in the world of Pokémon. The other aspect is the time frame: this version of Lumiose will be set in the past. While there are some techy 3D features in the trailer, it's all going off of a series of schematics—what the trailer calls Lumiose City's Urban Redevelopment Plan.
So a few thigns. 1. NOA said it takes place ENTIRELY In Lumiose City. 2. I think fans who played XY have forgotten how bad that city was due to its sheer size. 3. It hasn't been confirmed its set in the past. The likelihood IS high, but it could also easily be set as a sequel to XY taking place after the events of XY. And yes, thats likely the time period (Thought it was the 1800's though?) it'd be set IF it were the past since the Lumiose we see is the modern day one, but then again they wouldn't show the rebuilt one if it were a sequel. However there's one thing I haveta mention about the reconstruction era, that plan basically stole people's homes and made them homeless. IIRC it was over a million people so and with no disrespect to anyone or Paris but, can you really call it a beautiful place when it came at the cost of people's lives? I'll be SHOCKED if the game is set in that era AND touches on this and handles it well.

As for the game's name, no the A in Z-A doesn't mean for sure Arceus, we dunno what it means and it could mean anything really but lots of fans are speculating it could be in regard to AZ and isn't it funny that in the Presents the Unown were mixed up but were spelling out Pokemon Presents and See You ? which was at the start/end of the presents. (The ? mark is the biggest one I find odd, seeing as the presents was teasing Johto heavily only to not do the Crystal remake despite it being time (Much less a gen 5 remake which was due soon too) so here's hoping for a Crystal remake preferably with A) Not 1 to 1 the same game or even the same HGSS game but a better HGSS game and B) a Legends Towers game. Why Tower? I mean, Lugia was also part of the towers alongside Ho-Oh iirc and it doesn't make sense to exclude one bird who has less lore over the other plus, this would be both a great chance to tell the story of how Ho-Oh revive the legendary Beasts, show what they looked like b4 AND give Lugia some much needed TLC ala lore to match Ho-Oh's depth.

And then Charizard got two Mega Evolutions
Can't wait to see Mega Charizard Z :) More importantly, can't wait to see Mega Mewtwo Z! :)

Quote:
People got attached to Mega Evolutions for some reason, but I can see why GAME FREAK stopped using them. Frankly, Mega Evolutions were busted. One well-placed Mega Pokémon could tank your opponent's party (my Mega Scizor could take fire-type attacks to the face and keep on kicking). Mega Pokémon also had unique Hidden Abilities that could make them even stronger. And once a Pokémon Mega Evolved, it would stay that way for the whole fight. Z Moves were comparatively useless because of their single-use nature. Dynamax was a good stand-in for Mega Evolution: it kept the idea alive and restricted it to three turns. Because, see, Ultraman can only stay giant-sized for three minutes, and Pokémon has always been Ultraman, see? But also, it was a suitable balancing mechanism: you can't just ride one Dynamax to victory. Then Terastralizing came around and gave even more versatility because Pokémon can change their whole typing through Terastralizing, which can come in clutch at the right moment.
Because they're cool and fun to use. My gripe with them though is that almost all don't change much... they don't look like any evolution was done... they just grew more hair, patterns changed and other similarly small details such as got bigger as one of countless examples. Off the top of my head the oens who looked like they ACTUALLY evo'd were Mega: Mewtwo Y, Heracross, and to an extent Charizard X (I mean at least it changed color, wings also changed and it got blue flames, but it still barely passes for evolution, plus it sadly matches the state new evos for old mons are in now, still looking like the old mon but usually cooler now) My other prob with Mega evo was that they gave it to mons that... shouldn't have been given it. No not the already powerful mons. I'm talking about one that had yet to have any or only 1 evo like Mawile. I LOVE that mon's Mega don't get me wrong but that should've been an actual evo for Mawile... not a Mega. Mons like Mewtwo since tis a legendary I can justify esp since few evo and back then NONE evo'd till Mega evo was made.

They were busted back then due to the poor meta. It wasn't till gen 7 where they started to actually make the competitive scene better. Let's also not forget the meta in XY/ORAS was use Klefkey and Meowstic to paralyze u and win. Something that didn't happen as much in Gen 7 and gone by gen 8 for other strats. Now a days we have way more utility, more mons, better everything and if they take a cue from Super Mystery Dungeon by giving every mon a 1 time stat boost for the entire battle to those that can't Mega evo then it balances out. And the meta back then was atk with ur mega, not defend with it. (Unless it was Mega Sabyleye cus ya know, status conditions) so Mega Khangaskan, Mawile, Lucario, Garchomp and others were the go to megas back then. (And in gen 7 Kahn got a nerf I should point out which made it more fair)

Z-Moves were FAR from useless. Ever hear of Z-Splash? It gave any mon that used their Z move on Splash a +3 to their atk! Mimikyu was a BEAST with that +3 plus strong move poll such as Woodhammer. Best of all? It could afford the risk of setting up given its ability meant it could take a hit and its usually bulky enough to take a 2nd atk so doubles usually meant the opponent, long as Mimikyu outsped (And iirc, it was fast back in the day) would be getting the brunt end of a woodhammer or play rough or other move and often getting 1HKO. And thats JUST the move Splash. Z-Rain Dance set up rain like normal but gave ur mon a +1 in speed. There waere lots of other moves that gave other useful affects that i can't recall anymore but it wasn't solely just a 1 use only damage increase for 1 move. There was some legit strat to Z moves.

Dyna/Gigantamaxing was busted. Just as much as Megas were. Just not the doubles format, it was the singles format that it was busted in. A format where iirc u only got to use 3 of ur mons and a Dynamon could wall or beat the opponent. At least megas had ways to counter them but that was harder to do with singles in gen 8...

While I like the idea of type changing, I hate the hats, they're dumb and only given (likely) so as a way for the opponent to tell which type the mon became... I'd rather that just be displayed on the menu in battle GF... but I digress. This was for me the least interesting of the mechanics becus unlike the others that really shook up the battle, this doesn't have the same flare the others had and only powers up the mon's moves while changing its type. Lame. Esp when the jig is up when the opponent sees oh, its now this type. Its basically very situation for when it'll be useful... its interesting just the least interesting of all the mechanics.

All this is to say that bringing Mega Evolutions back is unnecessary
Like another, I disagree and again just due what Super Mystery Dungeon did, prob solved, esp in this meta where the competitive scene is more robust then back in gen 6... that is ofc... assuming LZA even has a meta since LA wasn't built for battling even if it had it and gave it a newish way to battle but it lacked an online play/battle feature and I suspect LZA will do the same thing again... which means the Megas being brought back and all this competitive talk you and I have done, is moot if so... if anything it'd just make LZA a better game at that point sicne less options for battling isn't great...

Somewhat amusingly and sadly, I randomly watched a VHS-quality video of Sweet Home two or three days before this higher-quality (and I imagine better-translated) version went up. I had specifically wished for a Blu-ray release to happen for it someday too, since the 80s practical effects were the highlight of the film. It's not an amazing horror movie (the plot is about as basic as it gets, and there isn't much to say about any of the characters), but it's pretty fun and certainly a curio of J-horror and video game history.

That's trademark, not copyright.

It's the reason things like "aspirin" and "thermos" are now generic terms, and not the specific product names they once were. By contrast, a company can ignore copyright infringement for years or even decades, and still have the courts side with them if they ever decide to take issue.

People wanted those games just not the versions they wanted.

What government is doing that?

Or rather what government not taking money from corporations to support legislation favorable to the interests or opposing legislation not favorable to the interests. Is doing that?

Not to mention layoffs in a company can affect people in different countries so you’d already have a bit of difficulty trying to make this idea work.

It wasn’t bad because of it’s size it was just a bit too awkward to find the shops you wanted to go to.

It's not a C&D. A C&D would be Nintendo's lawyers sending Tropical Haze LLC a letter in the mail or an email telling them to cease doing a specific thing, or cease everything, or it could go to court. What Nintendo of America specifically has done is file a lawsuit in the state of Rhode Island to sue Tropical Haze, and they want EVERYTHING. They want hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages for every copy of a game they believe to have been pirated to be played on Yuzu, they want general damage payments in addition to that, they want the rights to Yuzu, they want the Yuzu domain turned over to them, and they want all hard drives owned by Tropical Haze that contain Yuzu's files to be destroyed.

This is not them asking Tropical Haze to comply, this is them seeking a court order for all of this, and interestingly they've asked for a trial by jury. While there is potential for this matter to be settled outside of court, thus preventing any legal precedent from being set, I have a feeling Nintendo will not agree to that. They WANT precedent to be set. As was pointed out in this article, Nintendo is the staunchest opponent of emulation even though they themselves use it for their own backwards compatible library. Even official releases like the Super Mario All Stars collection were just emulated roms on a disc. But to Nintendo, emulation is only good when done by them, and on their own platform. Emulation off of their platform means they lose control of the distribution chain. And to them, no one does things the legally grey way aka dumping your legally purchased copies, all emulation to them is piracy. And part of their beef with Yuzu is that they have in depth instructions on their website, complete with tool names, on how to dump from your Switch console. But dumping doesn't just include games, which Nintendo thinks you shouldn't be allowed to do anyway, but also the product keys and firmware that are required to run the games and that Yuzu requires to function. And those last two are the clinchers because those are not legally obtainable in any sense. You don't own the Switch's firmware the same way you own the games. And the product keys are also technically Nintendo's property so those also technically aren't legal either. It's just an unspoken agreement that if you're going to emulate, you must dump your own stuff, but in the past that didn't require you to dump keys or firmware, at least not for most platforms. Now it matters more, and Nintendo isn't having it when Tears of the Kingdom, their biggest game, was pirated at least one million times by Nintendo's count.

They would've announced the 2nd ver if so. They did not and its a single game. If anything it could have time travel again so its plausible it takes place in the past and future and maybe even the present too.
