Well, that's a surprise. Good timing given the manga. Cool to see them replicating the volume covers. Are Ruby's and Ai's actresses related?

Not surprised, since this series wouldn't require much for special effects to do in live-action. Very interested to see if this version can capture the drama and emotional impact of the animated version.

So the movie wil cover the first anime episode, and the TV show the rest and beyond.
Regarding casting, I’m surprised that Aqua’s role didn’t go to any idol from STARTO or TOBE (Sho Hirano, who looks pretty good as a blond, comes to mind.) Although it would’ve been kinda twisted to have the protagonist of a manga that criticizes the Japanese entertainment industry, be performed by someone who is/was part of one of the most notorious and exploitative talent agencies in Japan.
I would’ve liked to see Kanna Hashimoto as Ai. (I also think it would’ve been funny to have the leads of live-action Kaguya-sama in another Akasaka Aka work, especially as it seems Akasaka did not like live-action Kaguya-sama.) I knew of Hashimoto only after she graduated from being an idol, but apparently she was a talent you see only once every thousand years. She also would’ve looked good as Ai (although not in the idol outfit — that is hideous, and no one in animated or live action form can make that look good).
I don’t like the actor for Memcho.

It's already a fail... They don't got those same eyes that stares into ur soul.
On a serious note, I don't have much expectations out of this. Not really that interested to see it either even for 1 episode. I just want the second season already!

Struck by the actors' faces relative to their anime counterparts' images. It seems that Ai isn't too sure about something, Aqua looks like he has a headache and would rather not be there and Ruby was told to pose "like this" and she does "I guess". I rather like Mem-cho as that expression is closest in spirit to her character but unless the others do better portrayals than these promotional stills project, I wouldn't hope for much...

I'm curious how this will compare to the anime version and how much involvement Aka had in this (especially knowing how much the manga critcizes the entertainment industry and possibly his own issues with the live-action Kaguya-sama).
Although casting former idols and singers in the cast makes sense. Can ano actually act!?

Someone would said that some in the production team hasn't read the comic. I mean, do they actually know they'd former idols talking about the dark side of the idol industry? (and the whole entertainment industry, truth to be told). Not to talk about the most serious stuff.
And also we got the chapters were a male idol is mocked because he can't act, but he's a pretty face with tons of followers... and then placing a female actor who maybe can't act but she's a pretty face.
And on my side note, why all live actions' actors look like having cheapish cosplay?

I don't know if it's bad makeup or something done in post, but all the actors look incredibly uncanny in the promotional image. Instead of being a story about the people beneath the facade of the entertainment industry, it looks like some grotesque parody.

Should be interesting, given the anime's popularity.

I don't see why not. While live-action adaptations of anime inherently add at least some level of camp, it by itself is not a dealbreaker

I know Amazon was taking limited steps into international productions with stuff like Black Sun and airing Shin Kamen Rider, but it looks like this is the first big attempt at a Netflix style manga adaptation. Certainly more cost effective than Netflix’s last two though.

I'm curious to see how they handle the talking babies and kids scenes.

Hashimoto's pretty much an A-list actress in Japan so I imagine it would be really difficult to cast her in a project like this.

The "some people just like to watch the world burn" part of me kinda wants this to bomb just to make the Sweet Today arc really meta.
But hopefully it doesn't.
