Yes, I'm early, just wanted to point out that the English title has been changed to Brave Bang Bravern! removing the first "bang" and adding an exclamation point. Likewise the Crunchyroll link changed: https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GEXH3W217/brave-bang-bravern

After two episodes, I think I admire this show more than I like it. It's very well produced and has real energy. It's also managed more than one wild swing. It certainly has ambition.
So I'm not quite sure why I didn't enjoy it all that much. The second episode in particular just felt like there was something "off" in the tone and pacing. It's hard to put my finger on precisely what it was, but some scenes seemed to drag on far longer than necessary, while others (including the battle at the end of the episode) felt abrupt. Still, it's early days yet... and if nothing else, it's providing plenty of material for a future Super Robot Wars game. |

I personally loved the waterboarding juxtaposed with Bravern believing with in Isami scene. I'll admit it's because I'm used to that kind of black comedy, but I also thought it was yet another scene where the "gritty real robot" sensibilities of most of the characters clashed with Bravern's "super robot" sensibilities.

Wanna know what the funniest part of this anime is? I was watching Idolmaster Xenoglossia before seeing the new episode. No, really. Sometime ago I decided to watch Xenoglossia for the first time and it just so happens that I reached episode 23 literally one day before watching episode 2 of Bravern. Sometimes, God just handles you a perfect joke in a silver plate.
Needless to say, I'm all in for the Bravern x Isami ship. |

I love fun and crazy Super Robot shows that knows what it wants to be and loves every minute of it so this show is definitely for me.
Also if Witch from Mercury was Mecha Yuri, this basically feels like Mecha Yaoi, complete with that homoerotic ED. Though I'm kind of shipping HibikixIsami. It seems like the crux of the dynamic is Isami wants nothing to do with piloting a Super Robot now and Lewis will have to push him to pilot Bravern because Lewis has basically become his emotional support. I wish Lewis had punched out the torturers. I wonder if Bravern is a member of the Deathdivers that went rogue? He seems to know them intimately (Superbia seemed kind of confused by Braven recognizing him (or her?), but he also was adamant he's not one of them. I'm guessing the rest of the Deathdiver general Mecha's are all protecting other towers around the world. So is Lewis going to end up piloting Superbia when he connects with that girl at the end who seems connected? |

There were many, many things I loved about episode 2... including the ED, of course... but I think my favourite parts were the German woman's reaction to the Big Gay Super Robot. Priceless.

I loved it too. It wouldn't have been as funny without the cuts to poor Isami being (literally!) tortured, because the seriousness of what was going on with him just made Bravern's soliloquy that much more surreal. |

Am I the only one that thinks we're being trolled and Bravern isn't what he seems to be? spoiler[I forget the name of the robot they're fighting in episode 2, but after it's defeated it ejects this pod thing. Then at the end of the episode Lewis literally stumbles across a woman covered in goo on the beach. I'm guessing that woman is the core or whatever of the robot and I'm also guessing she can take the robot form again for Lewis to pilot.
So now think back to the OP where we see this young girl with similar colored hair to the woman on the beach clinging to Isami... what if that's Bravern? Recall everything Bravern has said and done, but instead of thinking of it as gay think of it as if it's coming from a hyper and naive young girl that doesn't understand her choice of words?] That suddenly changes everything doesn't it? It would be a very Cygames thing to do, right? Emerje |

In the OP visuals spoiler[you can briefly see the young girl with longer hair before it turns into the young form. I am pretty sure it's the same girl and she just becomes small for some reason] |

@ Emerje: that's interesting speculation that could be correct and if it is, as you say it would change everything, for sure. Still wouldn't change that ED, though...

spoiler[I'm probably wrong about this particular girl now that I've rewatched the OP and realized she's clinging to Lewis and not Isami. But there's also the part at the 1:16 mark of what appears to be a flashback of a woman in a uniform with a strange necklace, and Bravern is constantly saying this isn't the first time they've met. I still think I'm right even if I got the wrong girl.] Emerje |

^ copied my comments from the 2024 Winter Preview thread, but wanted to add a couple of things: - Like everyone else, I'm highly amused that the man known for "explosive boobs" is subverting expectations by going all-in on homoeroticism. And yet, he is still sneaking in the occasional boob shot, which is also funny to me. - Can't wait for the inevitable, incestuous gattai sequences.
Small correction: this was Lewis talking, not Isami. |

Give this show a look even if you're not sure about it - definitely stick it out for episode 2. I wasn't convinced it'd be worth it since the twist seems so obvious (like the review says, it's right there in the title), but it's cleverly executed: there's more to it than just one cheap trick. Convincing enough that I'm on board to see where they're going here.
