Just a reminder that if you like shoujo like Saint Tail, Viz's Neighborhood Story and Seven Seas Marmalade Boy needs love.

I have a question about Saint Tail regarding the content in the anime.

Is the anime kid-friendly? Can 6-8 years old demographics be able to watch this? Is the subtitled version (as in the vocabulary level in the English subtitles) not too difficult for a young kids with sufficient reading skill to be able to watch this?

Does the Discotek Blu-ray have all the OP/ED theme songs, or just the first ones like the Tokyopop DVDs? ISTR there were some license restrictions with the later theme songs.

Man, this was a blast from the past. I remember really getting invested in Meimei and Asuka Jr.'s relationship and thinking Saint Tail's design was so cute.

I love Magical Girl Phantom Thieves!

Content-wise, absolutely. It's nonviolent and there isn't even any kissing, so if the religious aspect isn't an issue (and aside from the nun outfits, it's pretty mild), it's completely unobjectionable.

Subtitles are going to be a bit much for a six-year-old if they've only just learned to read, largely because of speed, but if the kids are reading at around grade level, it really should be okay.

One of my first anime. Back then I watched it dubbed (in European Portuguese), much like Cardcaptor Sakura. Unlike Cardcaptor Sakura, I never got around to watch it in its original Japanese.

I need to solve that. It is a wonderful anime, worthy of a rewatch. I need to do the same with Sailor Moon.

Discotek Media should dub the last 28 episodes or redub the whole series. Do you agree with me?

I seem to remember Meimi’s dad makes a homophobic comment in one episode, so you might want tot ale that into account, but that’s the only thing I can think of that doesn’t line up with modern sensibilities.

That aside, I really like this series. It’s goofy in the particular way only a 90s magical girl anime can be, which is very charming. Hoping I might get the Blu-ray as a holiday present Laughing

It was published in Nakayoshi, which is a magazine targeted at young girls, about that age and slightly up. I would say it's probably one of the most inoffensive anime you could possibly show a kid, even. The only thing I could see offending anyone is the religious setting it uses, but it doesn't try to preach anything to the audience and is mostly just for aesthetic. I think it's a great show for a kid.

I wonder if there was an attempt to get Saint Tail on US TV and the dub tried to tone down the religious themes for that?

I believe there was a rumor to that effect, but I don't know how much truth there is to it. It would make a lot of sense, though.
