If you look at the match 3 game this is based on, they do have stylised "chad" jaws. It looks fine in the 2d vector style.

I don't even think it looks non-fine in CGI, it just looks like a really experimental 3d student short film, whereas the original match 3 tiles are actually quite good looking.
