America (as per usual) lets One Piece down. -__-

Thank god for the world, tho! This should be enough to convince Netflix for a season 2.

Who knows what the completion rate is but the first charted period had 140.1 mil hours viewed and 18.5 mil views: https://www.netflix.com/tudum/top10/tv?week=2023-09-03

Week 1 wasn´t quite the mega-hit amateur sites reported it to be but still a good debut. The slight gain of views in the week 2 period is the real winner and the Netflix CEO and 2 Tomorrow Studios representatives showed themselves quite cooky in recent press statements. S2 with a more desirable schedule (S1 is confirmed to have lost 2 eps and with it Loguetown though Steven Maeda) is 99.9% guaranteed and will be the test if there is franchise potential. The Ace prequel LN can work as a mini or film for a bunch of reasons for example. No way this won´t launch (Netflix) careers if S2 keeps the momentum.

Carpenters and whatnot aren´t on strike, Pre-Viz and action choreography without the cast can start as S2 shooting scripts are said to be done but a (public) renewal during the strike still won´t lead to much.
I am confused as to why only one of the 2 showrunners is striking as both write scripts (on this show) and who knows which actors are SAG members so enough of the US-UK-Japanse-African production is marooned during the strike leading to a 2025 return. Then again, who isn´t?

Not bad news. Now we will see how much we can control the rate of decline in the third and fourth weeks.
spoiler[In Season 2, the world building will expand quickly and the difficulty of the action will increase. Rocks through clouds, canals up mountains, giants, giant whales, humans transforming into sand and smoke, reindeer that look like humans, Egyptian-style architecture, armies of millions...]
Anyway, it is full of challenges. And at the same time, you'll be admired when you get to do it all, if not all of it.

Interestingly, Variety reported that its first week hours were over 10x that of Cowboy Bebop.

Season 2 needs to happen, but that doesn’t happen without you know, the strikes ending.

In a little under 2 hours from my comment's posting (1pm PST), the official One Piece Netflix Twitter/X account is going to have an announcement, presumably by Oda himself. Very likely to be a season 2 announcement. https://x.com/onepiecenetflix/status/1702306200497606755?s=20
