The key is to use very short clips in any video featuring anime, especially Toei anime. It’s a little less likely to be flagged that way. I’ve learned this doing review videos for the past ten years.

While it is subject to various courts on when it does/does not apply, the concept of fair use/fair dealing should be a requirement of all Berne Convention members.

Why Toei, in general, are quite strict on copyright strikes than other animation studios whenever people making their video clips from Toei animes and then Toei already DMCA'd videos while other animation studios not much? Toei is so overprotecting their animes than any other animation studios. Toei is Nintendo 2.0. |

Not trying to be argumentative, but why should a legal right decided by courts in one country (US) be applied to a country like Japan unless that country says okay? The Berne Convention itself makes no mention of any fair use rights, and in fact only really says that signatory countries must respect copyright claims of the others, you are suggesting that countries also should respect when another country decides NOT to respect copyright, and I think you can see the issue with that. Effectively it would require a new worldwide international treaty that explicitly protects a fair use rights. But even in the US that right has never been written down in law, so much as the interpretation of law by the courts. |

If I remember correctly on the "Totally Not Mark" incident, they struck videos that didn't actually have any video footage at all from DBZ, just a few static images. Toei, and many other Japanese media companies for that matter, are known for being absolute dicks with Youtube content. Japan doesn't have the same fair use laws that we do in the US. Youtube ended up stepping in with the "Totally Not Mark" one and essentially told Toei to f**k off and then allowed Mark to block his content from Japan. Smaller Youtube channels like "Totally not Mark" don't usually have the ability to block their content from specific regions, but Youtube allowed Mark to block his stuff from Japan. |

Funniest thing is that epsiode I think came out in 2002 or 2003. I know it was after 2000 but early so I'm like copyrighted a part of a 20min that cam out about 21 years ago. |

I'm a Malaysian, yet I can't see the appeal of this guy. I don't even bother to follow him after watching his BBC Good Food fried rice reaction. For me, there are better comedians out there to watch.
