Is there a particular reason why that one button on her shirt is left... well, unbuttoned?
To show her carefree attitude or indifference toward personal look?

I haven't read the LN's, so this is just speculation, but unless the artist has actually stated such in interviews there probably isn't a definite answer either way.
It could be indifference, or her carefree attitude. Spike Spiegel's hair and unkempt suit is meant to invoke a similar feeling. Or it could be a way of showing that the character is...not quite put together. Tamako of Tamako Market always has three strands of hair out of place for a similar reason. It could also be a sign of the character's immaturity versus her station. She left home at an early age and became an adventurer with one of the highest ranks in Japanese fiction and then returned to her adopted father, so it could be a way of showing that need for a parent, since leaving a middle button undone is a very "kid dressing in grown up clothes" type of thing to do.

She's quite airheaded. So it's within character for her to miss a button on her shirt.

I recently started reading the web novel. It is nice to see what the characters could look like compared to my imagination. I hope this anime lives up to what I am reading.
