Here's hoping GKIDS/Shout! eventually release the other films on 4K.
If done right, I'm sure the HDR would look pretty good on them. Maybe some Atmos mixes for the audio, too? Although, that's probably a stretch.

This is awesome news coming out this morning!
My only concern is whether GKIDS will reuse the Amazon Prime dub for the home video release or if they'll start over with a new dub. Because TBH, I was not a fan of the Prime dub. It was competent but below what Funimation did with their Eva Rebuild movie dubs in terms of quality, IMO.

I preordered the regular Blu-Ray version. I spent $300 on the TV series, I’ve paid my dues. Plus the collectors edition seems thicker and space is at a premium in the plastic drawers I keep my anime.

Thrice Upon a Time’s dub was a lot better than the other three Dubbing Bros dubs for Amazon. Even I was impressed by Tiffany Grant’s performance and I usually can’t stand her Asuka.
That said, if they wanted to redo the movie dubs with the VSI crew, I wouldn’t object. It just doesn’t seem necessary. The Rebuild dubs aren’t amazing, but they’re not quite terrible, either. I doubt GKids sprung for another take at this point.

I pray for a new dub. I watch the other rebuild films with the Funimation dub every time. I can't stand that Amazon Prime dub cast.

With a few exceptions, like bringing Amanda Winn Lee back, I really can't recall the VSI dub being all different from the Funimation dub.
As for whether or not they will include the Funimation dub for Films 1-3, I doubt it given that Khara stopped working with them after 3.0 and might go as far as prohibit any and all re-releases of that dub.

The biggest problem with 3.0+1.0's current dub is the director's frankly idiotic decision to leave all non-verbal audio like screaming undubbed-- out of "respect" for the JP VAs, he claimed. It's especially jarring with Shinji for obvious reasons
In a perfect world, GKIDS would give us a new, full dub... but I don't have much hope

both the studio and director mostly handle foreign live-action dubs and they are used to leave screams and grunts undubbed, and to be fair,it is a common practice in most foreign dubs of live-action stuff(even high profile ones from major studios like Disney)...but they decided to apply that in an anime, which doesn't really work, and it shows they are not used to dub anime, especially a high profile one like Eva...
Also, they left Asuka's scream in THAT scene completely muted...

Sad thing is Japan STILL hasn't released 4k discs for the first two so if they get any of them, 3.0's likely to get that treatment.

Would love for the Funimation cast to come back and re-dub it. Highly doubt that happens though, likely stuck with the Amazon dub. Only real complaint with Amazon's was Mari's new VA felt incredibly lifeless compared to the Funimation actress

I am so grateful that my preference is to watch Eva Rebuid with the original audio. That way I don't have to worry about what English dub is available.
I would like the 4K BD, but I will also buy the regular edition.

Finally! But, yes, I also worry about the inconsistency of the dub situation.

I doubt if GKids would shell out to do a different dub for the movie, even with the inconsistency of 3/4 of the physical releases having a different cast from this one. Amazon has deep enough pockets that dubbing those movies again doesn't meant much, especially if they were already willing to swoop in to get it when other companies, like Netflix, no doubt wanted it.
If they end up selling the first three movies again, I expect we'll see the dub from the Amazon version. i don't know what prompted it, but anybody who recorded with Funimation would have been free to do so again, so going back to the old cast for some actors, and just finding someone else for others seemed like a pretty deliberate choice. If Khara was the reason for it, then there may not be much option.

Nope, the translation was very different in the first 2 movies for the dub almost tortuously so. The third movie though was pretty close to the same with a few exceptions. I felt bad for the actors having to read those lines for the Amazon dub.
I'll pick this last one up from Gkids, but I'll be keeping my Funi BDs as I don't expect the new ones to include the Funi dub. One of the few anime I watch dubbed and they had to ruin it.

That is what Funimation did with casting for the original Rebuild dubs, they brought back some actors like Spike, Tiffany and Alison, and recast others. Weirdly both Greg Ayres and Monica Rial were in the original Eva and the Rebuilds as different characters.

That’s because Dan Kanemitsu from Khara wrote all the ADR scripts for Amazon, right? He’s who rewrote Funi’s 3.33 script and the Netflix scripts. Even if GKIDS somehow did produce a new dub, I’m sure Khara would guarantee he’s still involved, so it wouldn’t fix anything.
