They sound good, I just wish we didn't have to deal with a recast in the first place :/

On one hand there's an expectation for these characters to sound a certain way so it it's kind of nice that the main cast is largely taking their predecessors into account in their performances. It eases the transition a bit. On the other hand, if the casting call was 'please sound as much like Michelle Ruff and Tara Platt as possible'... why not just get the actual Michelle Ruff and Tara Platt? It feels especially crappy since the Japanese cast has been 100% consistent since the original PS2 game. I don't even think this new cast will be bad, it just leaves a sour taste.

Because it sounds weird having 40 year olds voicing teens? Japan’s habit of having adults voicing teens is not something the west should follow. It ends up with that aweful “anime voice” for girls.

They're actors, they can do this thing called "acting" where they can sound like teenagers. Also Yuri Lowenthal just sounds exactly like he did 17 years ago, if he was convincing enough then he's convincing enough now.

So having 20/30-somethings voicing teens is less weird? Let’s leave age out of this. While there’s certain way young kids/teens talk, a ton of people don’t sound their age. I’m an adult woman and I’ve been told I sound like a 10 year old. There’s also the fact that voice actors are just…Acting with their voice. How old they are doesn’t matter as long as they can play the part.

But half of the new voice actors are in their mid 30s. It's not like they hired a bunch of fresh-faced kids right out of acting school or anything. Is there really such a big age difference between 30s and 40s? Chances are it was just about money.

Persona 3 has the best story in the franchise, but other than Aigis, i really dont like the characters in this game.

I can't really disagree, which is a bit of a shame, because these games are all about the characters.

The article didn't say it, but it seems like they will retain the original Japanese cast members. Wonder why the old English cast couldn't be salvaged.

I'm of two minds. The voices and the dub sound good and on-point but it also feels like the new VA's, who are all incredibly talented and fit the character mind you, are trying to sound like the original VA's. Especially Allegra Clark as Mitsuru, I almost thought it WAS Tara Platt for a second.
I just can't help but think it's a bit ageist to recast everybody with relatively younger VA's when the originals had stayed with these characters so long past the original game and into so many spinoffs, but that's part of why fans came to embrace them as the voices of those characters. Especially when the sub has had such consistency. I mean, it's not like Tara Platt didn't voice a teen Edelgard all that long ago but suddenly she can't play Mitsuru any more?
All that being said...Suzie Yeung is the best thing to happen to dub Fuuka, and the gameplay looks great.

Okay? Thanks for the random (and bad) dig at the game that no one asked for? We're not even talking about that here, this is just about the VAs specifically. That being said, so far I really love this new cast. The originals were great and had a lot of big names like Liam and Yuri, but the AX panel that the new cast held essentially assuaged all doubts I had about them replacing the original cast in this game, they sound fantastic. Even more excited about this game now, and I didn't even think that was possible.

He just wanted to express his honest feelings about the game. He doesn't need to entertain your train of thoughts about the new voice actors. You need to be more chill, no matter how much you love this game.

Honestly, the whole cast has gone on a defensive tirade saying they're doing their own thing and they weren't impersonating the original actors. Clearly they were cast because they had a similar sound, I don't know why they needed to shove away any similarity to the original actors. They said it would be an insult to follow up what they originals had already done...so I guess completely replacing them is their idea of respect LOL? Honestly, it's just because this happened after Michelle Ruff spoke out about ageism in the industry that I'm so miffed.

Could have fooled me. I haven't played the EN version much so maybe a more familiar fan could tell but if you didn't tell me about the recasting I would have assumed everyone was the same since they sounded similar enough. Except maybe Akihiko's.

I mean, the new voice actors aren't exactly real teenagers either and I never had any problems with 40-somethings voicing teens, there's people that sound younger than they're. Heck, back in 2021 Funimation redubbed FMA Brotherhood into Spanish and Edward's voice actor reprise his role, and despite being in his early 60s he sounded the same and somehow believable as a teen
