If I could just add a correction to my own article, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet is most certainly not streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the UK. I just checked right now, and it's not available in this region. It's not available to stream anywhere in the UK any more, as far as I can see.

The dig directed at Karneval feels bizarre and unnecessary, especially since that season had much weirder and more infamous productions than that show.

Unironically, yes. It was a fun time! It was different and the incest stuff was barely subtext until the OVAs of season 2. I think it's kinda sad that people can't bring themselves to watch it because of how they think it'll go by the title. It's a great story about the Otaku lifestyle told through someone who's embarrassed of their hobby.

If you ignore the OVAs and treat them as non-canon, then yes, Oreimo is a decent show about otaku with an edgy/jokey incest angle that surfaced from time to time. However, for a lot of people, that's a big, big if. I hated the OVAs; Manami's punch in that screenshot was the most satisfying thing about them. It's just too bad Manami didn't have the strength of Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star
In short, there's a reason why I sold off a large chunk of my Oreimo collection after the ending; I had a minor obsession with the show up to that point. Also, Kuroneko was robbed (but in fairness, she, bafflingly, did it to herself).

In regard to the first topic: I still think that one of the greatest contributions MHA made to anime overall was that it is ok to take a break from airing episodes. The audience will come back, and the people working on it will probably be better off as well. Plenty of people stopped watching things like Naruto or just used a guide to figure out which episodes of Bleach they could skip because they got bored with the filler anyway.
Boruto finally admitted that despite following the lead of its predecessor before, and even the current Bleach arc wasn't planned to be continuous, despite the source material being long since concluded.

Other gems from 2013:
- Chihayafuru 2, this show should need no introduction.
- Encouragement of Climb / Yama no Susume, the first season with the charming mountain climbing girls.
- Love Live School Idol Project, the first and still the best of this sprawling franchise. (Though the current Superstar is certainly giving it a run for it's money.)
- Non Non Byori, the ur-example of the "nothing ever happens" [but I can't stop watching] slice of life series. Nyanpasu!
- Silver Spoon, our first foray into the world of an agricultural high school. Decidedly the weaker of the two, but the foundation for the outstanding second season.

I watched some shows simulcasted in 2012, but 2013 was when I stared watching Anime that way regularly, it's interesting looking at the stndard shows you got each season then compared today. Pigtails and Other Shorts was a pretty release, I got to see some interesting OVAs I doubt I would have seen otherwise.

Has already been 10 year?
Would have loved to watch flower of evil since I really like rotoscope, but I cannot stand show about horrible people being horrible to each others when we're asked to take them seriously.
Gargantia was such a letdown, even ignoring the Urobochi bait, it was just such a dumb show. I still remember one character telling the main character he shouldn't be involved in a conflict because he would end up killing people only to herself turn around and order her ship to fire their cannon at the enemy. I don't know why the mech genre is cursed with having some of the worst writing in existence, what did mech ever do to anime...
Devil is a part timer is a good reminder that sometime it good for show not to adapt anymore of the base material. S1 was great because it adapted solid material before the author ran out of idea. Then they bonked their head and decided to adapt S2 a decade later to unsurprisingly underwhelming results.
There's manga that actually go full incest and its not terrible (cant remember the name cause its been like 20 year) so story about it can work, but its really weird to set it as an harem and still go the incest route when the main character has plenty of other choice...

Yeah I was really surprised by it. Like, sure I guess it's not the best adaptation but I haven't gotten around to reading the manga yet and I liked it well enough! It sure isn't an abomination like the writer said.

Yeah, Spring 2013 was a very strong season; Gargantia was my favorite anime for the whole year.
And regardeless of the incest stuff, I will keep saying that Oreimo is a well written and well animated show that is worth a look.

For Spring 2013... Good stuff- nothing that rates above "vey good"*_**
*for me- I may watch AoT when it ends- but I'm happy not to be trapped on that hype train.
I liked Gargantua at the time. I still quite like SNAFU, especially the beginning. Azazel-San 2 was that season- good shock comedy. Hentai Prince is good for what it is- Did a rewatch recently when I was sick- a good distraction.
**The exceptions are the undeniably excellent "continuing" shows Chihayafuru 2 and Space Brothers (which I almost want to rate a Masterpiece).
