Live a Live is one of the greats. Glad it's getting an official PC release.

Not heard of this before, but at a glance the description sounds quite similar to Saga Frontier(multiple protagonists, different stories)?

It actually precedes Saga by 4 years(frontier was 1998, Live A Live was 1994). It gained a cult following thanks to early SNES fan translations. It's quite a different rpg.

Technically it predates SF but yes, it's a very similar game.

Hope it gets a physical PS4/PS5 release like the Switch version did.
An HD-2D remake of Chrono Trigger next would be awesome.

As far as I'm aware, the Saga Frontier devs even said once that Live A Live was a direct inspiration for that game. It kind of shows through with some of the storylines between the two games (Red's chapter in particular is kind of Saga Frontier's take on the Akira chapter). Live A Live is influential as hell in general though, given how the game was more or less the prototype for Chrono Trigger, too.

Honestly, at this point in time it feels like Chrono Trigger doesn't quite need one - it still holds up great. Now, an FF6 remake in that engine, boy would I be up for that...
(Also, Square Enix *really* just needs to give us another update on the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3, now that I think about it - we never got anything after that announcement trailer.)

That's true, it makes great use of the SNES hardware and brings some great visuals. The original Live a Live looks rather bland, so getting a HD-2D remake was the right idea, but some of those 2D JRPGs from the 90s, especially the ones on PS1 and Saturn, look way better than the HD-2D games.

Definitely agree that Chrono Trigger doesn't need a remake or upgrade, but it still would be fun to see Chrono Trigger get the Octopath Traveler/Live A Live treatment and play it again in a new way [especially on a physical cartridge/disc], on current gen consoles [Switch/PS4/PS5/XBox].
An HD-2D remake might actually be the only way Chrono Trigger could get a current gen release, besides a digital only Nintendo Online thing that will eventually shut down forever. Though I do own the original Chrono Trigger physically on PS1/DS, and both are among my most favorite video games in my collection, especially the DS version which is compatible/playable on 3DS and I think Analogue Pocket too.
