OK, nice to see DC Comics publishing these in the US. Well, given that DC Comics is now more involved in anime (see Batman: Ninja, Catwoman: Hunted), and the fact that manga may have outsold American/western comic book combined in the US (and leading to the rumor about Demon Slayer outselling any US comic books back in 2021). I wonder if it's the right time for DC Comic to revive/bring back their CMX manga imprint which was shut down in 2010 given the situation and environment today compared back to late 2000's/early 2010's?

Do any of you on ANN think maybe DC should revive CMX imprint given that manga have now outsold their western/American comic counterpart, and given that DC Comics are now knee deep in anime/manga?

I am unironically hyped as hell to read the manga about Superman visiting chain restaurants. It's so silly I simply must read it.

I am happy to see these series all get English release, but I'm then also reminded that DC never finished releasing Batman & the Justice League, despite only having one volume remaining! DC released the first three volumes back in 2018 & 2019, but Volume 4 has yet to get released, even after almost four entire years.

Which makes me wonder if DC Comics has any plan to bring back their CMX imprint (which was shut down in 2010). Given the situation with manga outselling US/western comics in the US/North America today compared to the environment back in 2009/2010, and also given that DC/WB are knee deep in anime/manga rabbit hole. This is just my opinion: If DC Comics is going be into that deep rabbit hole world of anime/manga, then maybe DC should bring back their CMX imprint. It would be the right time for DC to revive/bring back their manga imprint now that it's acknowledged and solid confirmation that manga have already outsold their western/US comic counterpart.

If DC Comic is going to bring back their CMX imprint, I would like to see IDW Publishing to get into the manga translating/publishing game again since the last time they did it was back in 2007 with Kazuo Umezu's Reptilia. I mean even back in 2007, the then editor of IDW Publishing has said that the company had express interest of publishing manga in the US and after they published Reptilia, they never jump on the manga game:

Quote:
PWCW: Are you looking into doing more manga?

CR : We’ve talked about it. We’ve talked about Chinese and Vietnamese manhwa. We’re looking at some and monitoring how it performs and seeing if bookstore buyers want more. We’d consider doing more, but we don’t have anything immediate to announce at this point.

After that interview, and the published manga came out in the US, IDW never tried to license, translate, and publish manga again since then. But then again, 2007 and 2023 is very different for manga in the US/North America. So maybe this is the right time for both DC Comics and IDW Publishing to look into the manga business again now that the situation is different today compared to late 2000's/early 2010's. Now that we know that manga are outperforming US/western comics in the US in term of sales, and a lot of mainstream hype on manga, I think it's the right time for US comic publisher to look into licensing, translating, and publishing manga in the US.

As if Dark Horse hadn’t been doing that already.

I highly doubt that DC would ever revive CMX, simply because DC deemed it a failure back in the 00s, and companies like this utterly abhor acknowledging that they messed up or want to revive something that failed, at least in the same form it first existed in. It's obvious that the only manga DC is interested in releasing at this point are adaptations of its own superhero comics, so that's likely all we'll be seeing in the future.

Except that said "western/US comic counterparts" actually do their best to utterly ignore that fact, so why would they suddenly start admitting that they've long stopped being #1? Again, companies like DC or Marvel are notoriously stubborn, and as long as their Hollywood movie adaptations continue to be big deals they will continue to ignore all proof that manga handily outsells their own comics, and they will absolutely refuse to start doing manga that isn't already related to their own works. To do so would be paramount to admitting defeat, in their eyes.
