Cesare gets my vote and thereafter Umi ga Hashiru Endrol. Both are unlicensed in English. Sigh. This industry would be nowhere without fan translations, that´s for sure.

Whoa, surprised Cesare got nominated considering how long its run was, and how it recently ended, but it definitely has my pick! Still one of my favorite historical manga of all time.

I didn't realize Cesare had ended. I guess I'd better go back and finish reading it now. It can drag a little when it's giving you a history lesson, but it's also one of the most beautiful manga I've ever seen (the backgrounds alone are worth the price of admission).

Plus, I love the rough paper for the tankobon dust jackets. The lack of art on them is a bold choice and makes them really stand out on a shelf.

SxF and Takopi stand out, and not in a good way imo. I enjoyed both of them but they're not Tezuka prize material when all these other wonderful nominees around. I'd have pegged Tatsuya Endo for a new creator prize (SxF is madly popular, and the anime adaptation launched the published volumes into the all-time top-100 by total sales—quite a debut), but I think there's a separate list for those.
