Pretty wild. Wonder if this was dubbed back around when Punk Hazard was coming out in English (2019/2020-ish) and it was just held back for licensing reasons, or dubbed more recently.

Perfect timing, striking while the iron is literally frozen over for Toriko.

It’s a clear sign that they don’t have a lot else to go on, and a One Piece/Dragon Ball crossover is a pretty big deal, even if Toriko’s presence is essentially the “he thinks he’s on the team” meme.

Isn't there something planned for Toriko 15th Anniversary?

Toriyama and Oda did a One Piece/Dragon Ball crossover manga several years ago. I'm surprised that they never animated that one.

Toei REALLY wanted to make Toriko into the next big thing for a while there. The first episode of the Toriko anime is actually a different crossover with One Piece, just to get the ball rolling, I guess. A year later they did another crossover between the two shows, and then a year after that, they went ahead and added Dragon Ball to the mix, which honestly felt a bit desperate at that point.
And it's not like Toriko was a failure. It was pretty popular! The manga was never the biggest series in Jump but it sold well enough to last 43 volumes and reach its intended conclusion. But it wasn't a historic, generation-defining megahit like Dragon Ball or One Piece, and apparently that's what Toei expected from it. By putting Toriko alongside those two classics, Toei made Toriko look really small in comparison. They should have let it stand on its own.

I wonder how successful the Toriko anime really, given that Toei ended it incomplete.

I think it probably was dubbed then because Toei was guiding the dub at that point and could immediately authorize dubbing it. It was never released on DVD in Japan so that probably kept it off the DVD in the US but since it was dubbed it probably was sent to Toonami with the Punk Hazard tapes and they skipped it in sequence but seem to have gotten the green to play it with Toei’s blessing.
Unfortunately it’s only the 2nd half of the special but it’ll still be fun to see the dub.

God i read the s*** out of Toriko. It was such a fun an creative series. Even at the end when it was getting rushed like heck it was still an awesome read. I even remember watching this crossover subbed on youtube when it was on there some years ago now. It was fun but for me it was reading the comments talking about the characters in terms of strength and a majority were like "why is toriko even there?" as if Toriko couldn't hang with luffy or what i believe is end of Z goku.
Toriko should really have another shot at an anime. It's so creative and they butchered it so hard giving toriko some weird rainbow colored power up. I just wanna see The 8 kings animated and being the awesome forces of nature that they are is that so much to ask?

If they're truly desperate is there not Heroes and some specials for Dragonball they can release officially instead? America never got the one with Vegeta's brother, didn't they?

I know people meme on Toriko but it did last very long and was genuinely popular series, just not on the top tier of popularity like the other two. A tier or two below them.
Doubt it'll ever get an entire remake anime, but a continuation to wrap things up would be nice one day like Bleach got.

Pretty neat I'll check it out. I still think the other 2 One Piece/Toriko crossover episodes are undubbed at the moment.

I'm really happy to see that the anime crossover will be released in North America at this time. I also heard that there will be an English dub coming soon. This is such miraculous news as there was no anime crossover that ever had an English dub, even when it was released in North America. Though, I am still wondering to see the day when the leftover OVAs, movies, TV specials, etc. from most beloved anime franchises (Dragon Ball, One Piece, My Bride is a Mermaid, Fairy Tail, etc.) will finally get released in North America and dubbed in English soon. I know it might have something to do with licensing issues, but it does take time and effort to iron something out. And with all things considered, let's hope what it will have in store for us in North America.
