In terms of an individual ANN article about official licensors adding to their library, 150+ plus has to be a record specific number wise.

With that sheer amount of titles, I have to think this is related to series currently being released on MangaUp Global, and if so, at least in my opinion there are some series it would be fantastic to see on ComicKey. Although if this is related to MangaUp I have to wonder what this will mean for MangaUp going forward, whether Comic Key is being treated as a complementary platform by Square Enix or if this is being done because MangaUp isn't putting up sustainable numbers. Even before MangaUp Global launched, ComicKey had a fairly good relationship with Square Enix, and regardless of the motivation for this move or how it is related to MangaUp, with that sheer disproportionate amount of Square Enix titles ComicKey is going to end up with it wouldn't be surprising to see Square Enix end up with a sizable stake in ComicKey in the future.

Integrity be damned, webtoon formatting is just more popular. Most anime fans I know read on their phones, and the webtoon format works perfectly for phones. I use a tablet most of the time, and while it can't replace physically manga IMO, I think it keeps the artistry accurate. However, it could bring more manga readers in, again, IMO.

People slowly switching from physical to digital media, more likely. Webtoons are basically designed to read on phones with it's format.

Apparently, from reports at Anime NYC, it's going to some titles from MangaUp as well as a number of titles that had never been licensed for English release before. If that's the case, then I really do hope that Comikey isn't just grabbing a bunch of more recent manga from Sqaure-Enix, and will be offering some of the old classics from the old Enix days, like Violinist of Hameln, Magical Circle Guru-Guru, Dragon Quest: Emblem of Roto, & Haré & Guu.
It'd be a bit of a waste if Comikey gets so many titles from Square-Enix, only to not try to take advantage of it in any way.

Many of the Square Enix titles on ComiKey are even several chapters ahead of what is available on Manga Up, even if you take the non-free chapters into account (example: My Awkward Senpai is up to chapter 37 in ComiKey and 35 in Manga Up). It's kind of weird.
Then again, there are also a number of Square Enix titles that seem to be abandoned on both platforms, like The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, The Necromancer Maid, My First Times with Suwa-san, etc.

Curious how many new titles there will be or if most of the 100+ is just Manga Up stuff. If a big chunk is new, wonder what the logistics are on that especially when they were critcized in the past for poor pay rates for localization teams and now spreading that to tons of more titles.

By converting to webtoon format, do they mean a vertical scroll? If so, hopefully the option to read it the original way is still available.
