WSJ is much more cutthroat lately, even though they don't Thanos snap manga so early anymore.

Well, who is to blame that literally all of 2022 releases outside Akane-Banashi and RuriDragon actually sucked so hard in ToC ratings and sales that honestly there is nothing to be done except putting the axe on them as fast as possible.

If only switching to Jump+ could be their main alternative over axing way to early when they don't reach quota soon enough. Anyway i will read all of them as always so Godspeed to the creators.

WSJ did give them a chance, they just failed to gain an audience. If you can attract readers with 2 volumes worth of story, then maybe the problem is your series just suck. No reader gonna said :"these 2 volumes is bad but I will keep buying it until it get good"/ Most people drop a manga by the first volume if it failed to grap them. It not suprise that all the cancelled series sold terrible and rank terrible.

They gave them a chance. The authors wasted the editor-in-chief's time by performing awfully with readers. the longer they stay the longer they are preventing newer authors from getting their shot.

Even then it seems like the older series (barring One Piece, JJK, and Sakamoto Days) are appearing in the backpages more often.

I get why people want this, but there's not really any good reason why they would move things over to Jump+. Sure, Jump+ doesn't have a physical limit to the number of series it can host, but there is a limit to the amount of editorial manpower the publisher can commit to it, same as any other magazine. If a series is failing in the main magazine - aka the largest print publication in manga - there's no reason to think it would suddenly start getting dedicated readership once it's digital-only and still competing for readership with not only the regular WSJ lineup, but the Jump+ catalogue as well. So why continue devoting editors, assistants, and marketing resources to a failing series when you can move those to new series that at least have a theoretical chance of doing better?

As for the new series, I'm interested to see Taizan 5's new work. I wasn't wild about Takopi's Original Sin, but it was certainly unique and ambitious, so I'm curious to see what they'll make next. I'm also interested in Jinzo Ningen 100. The other two...not so much. I can't stand Nisio Isin's writing at the best of times, and Medaka Box was hot garbage. Meanwhile Hayashi's new thing seems to be another gag series, and I really didn't like the humor in I'm From Japan so I think that's gonna be a pass.

And for anyone feeling pessimistic, Takopi was one of Jump+'s biggest hits despite being only two volumes, so this mangaka's proven an ability to grab an audience quickly.

I compared it to a NaNoWriMo project when I was reading it, but it could certainly be an interesting one. (Maybe I should get back to it sometime; I got like three-quarters of the way through, around the point where spoiler[the villain declared that from then on, it'd be a crappy romance manga instead of a crappy battle manga].)

Besides I think new creators have a better shot of building their notoriety on a site like Twitter or pixiv before a major publisher acquires it.

Like others have said, these series, every series they run gets it's chance. But the metrics/bar WSJ seem to be using are really high, maybe always have been. Series need to perform well right away, maintain it, and likely need to be something that can be adapted to an anime down the line.

WSJ has always been this cutthroat. Hand's lasted a whole 10 chapters back in 2006.
