my parent's are really strict about what i say what i watch and and the last and the worst WHAT MANGA I READ!!
im only ten but they could let loose a bit about it

like yesterday i had a manga wanted to buy it was nana and i really wanted to start reading nana and my mom looked at it like freaked out in the middle
of the book store and then told me to get something else so while she goes to find something i look and i find strawberry panic and im crazy for strawberry panic but ever since my found out i was watching i have not been aloud to watch it and now finding it in my local bookstore IT'S PAIN!!
i tried to talk my mom into but she wouldint and while i keep looking
i find another great yuri anime my mom dose not know about it's was revolutionary girl utena so i pull it out and utena and anthy are in a very suggestive pose and my mom looks at me like she's gonna say no an you know what she said?:NO!!
my mom tried to talk me to getting pichi pichi pitch but thankfully i ended up getting the 6th volume of rozen maiden!

what im saying is that there much manga for kids that im itrested in
and all the manga i like and want my parent's usually say no to!
so if you recomend any good intresting shonen/shojo manga
i'd be very happy!

Here are a few titles I think could pass parental approval.

Yotsuba&! - This is a slice of life, comedy manga about a little girl. It's very cute and very silly.

Gon - This is a manga about a little dinosaur and his adventures.

Azumanga Daioh - By the same author as Yotsuba&!, it's another slice of life, comedy this time about high school girls and wackyness.

Magic Knight Rayearth - A story about 3 girls transported to another work and their quest to save it.

I think your parents are only concerned about your well being, because manga does have its limits on how lax it can be with things. Some of the titles you have mentioned, I have to say, might actually be a little bit beyond your age limit. Such as Utena. Granted it is a shojo manga, but some of the themes presented in it are a little too young for you. I will agree with you though, that your mother may have overreacted in the store and instead of causing a commotion in the bookstore should have had a chat with you as to why you wanted to read it and why you shouldn't be reading it yet. I have to ask, are your parents religious? If so, that could explain a lot about your situation.

While I do think that your mother overreacted to an extent, as your legal guardians, it is a part of their job to be concerned with what kind of content you are exposed to, especially at your age. My parents didn't start loosening up until I was in middle school, and while they did not have to worry about me picking up hentai, I mostly watched what was on television and read manga based on what was on television in order to make them more comfortable.

There is nothing wrong with waiting until you are older in order to be able to watch and read whatever you want. But if you really want to convince your parents that you are mature enough to read and watch these titles, then it is your responsibility to earn their trust by proving your maturity to them. I think a good place to start would be to have a discussion with them and you might even be able to reach a compromise.

Here's a thread that has some recommendation for a minor reader.

It may help you and as you've mentioned it's alright if it's a shojo type.

I understand where you're coming from. My mother is very religious too. She didn't allow me to watch R rated movies by myself until I was left in Japan by myself to finish up school. Even now since I'm living with my parents she still will get on my case if I'm watching violent anime, so I have to watch stuff she considers inappropriate when nobody's around. Give it some time, it will get to the point when they will have to let go and understand that you're on your own. But for you being ten, that may not be the best time yet. Good luck though with your search and all.

Cardcaptor Sakura is a GREAT series and it is appropriate for someone your age. If your mom picks up the book she will see it has an "ALL" rating Anime smile and the covers just feature a cute girl with her magic staff.

I think based on the manga you were trying to read (Utena, etc.), you will enjoy CCS very much. It has magic, many different relationships to explore (between boys, gals, boys and gals, etc.), and a good story.

I might suggest Angelic Layer. It's by CLAMP and has action, but it's pretty much a story with a middle school aged student in battles with figurines against other people who compete in the same sport. Nice action but no violence. I suggest looking it up.

your parents are that concerned over what you read or watch, yet they allow you to browse and post on internet forums?

Well, I'd say have your parent read Nana or Utena and have them understand the characters and story. Too many times parents get out of context clips. Though Nana and Utena is rather racy and deals with adult issues issues of sexuality.

Then again, they're also issues you'll unfortunately run into in the average American high school. So explain to your parents that it's better to read about these issues in fiction then to just find out your friend at school's a lesbian or is pregnant after being date raped.

Other than that, wait till your 18 and book it out of there.

HA! Yeah. The internet and its forums are a googleplex times worse than any manga you can buy at your local bookstore.
