I take it the cartridge slot on top is fake, or can you actually put your Mega-Drive games into it?

Hopefully if/when it comes to NA, they use the genesis core 2 design this time.
If they're adding sega CD games, it'd be nice to see 32X as well (no need to wait for a mini 3 sega...)

No, it's too small. The slot is just for show. Though in Japan they did have mini carts you could add (among other accessories) for decoration.

Won't happen. M2 said that getting the processors for that emulated would be difficult because it's the same setup as the Saturn.

And that is probably why we'll never see a Saturn Mini (although one could argue it would probably be easier to just emulate a lot of its hits from their arcade originals).
Still, Sonic CD raised my eyebrow.

Sadly, the emulation with the previous Genesis Mini was so bad with its audio lag that it basically ruined the device for me. And I don't expect Sega to do better with this one. And no, I'm not talking about the AtGames mini consoles, I'm talking about the recent one that was supposed to be good.

ok the Mega Drive Mini 2 will include 50 Mega Drive and Mega CD titles, including Sonic CD, Virtua Racing, and Fantasy Zone (thanks, NintendoLife)....that can be a bit pretentious

Ah, that's too bad. They'd probably have to double the cost to get what would be needed then. At least for now.

These things need mini-cart shaped flash drives you can upload your own rooms to.

Does this mean it's possible that Sega is gonna try and get back into making modern consoles?

I'm have more nostalgia for the Genesis Model 2, here in Latin America there were plenty of bootleg consoles based on that model and you can still find them in stores. I hope that SEGA includes the six-button controller if they decide to include more fighting games.

I don't think it's possible, SEGA lost a lot of money with the Dreamcast and I don't think there are still people in the company who specialize in hardware development. Not to mention that for over 20 years there have only been 3 major consoles on the market and every attempt by another company to enter the video game console business has ended in failure, like the Ouya. For SEGA to enter the console market again, they'd have to invest hundreds of millions in hardware and software development, and I personally don't think former SEGA fans and the public in general would jump ship from current consoles/PC to new hardware.

No. That won't happen ever.
(Getting awful flashbacks to the guy who kept claiming it was happening on here and several other boards)

Yeah, I would sincerely doubt it. I guess Sega responded to people wondering about a Sega CD or Saturn Mini by basically saying that, at least currently, production for those would be too costly. If those are too expensive, then putting in the R&D to make their own new console is not going to happen.
