I was surprised to see quite a few seats for the only showing in my area had already been reserved. I don’t wanna miss out on Utena Jr. so I bought myself a ticket just in case there are more people into this show than I expected.

If Sentai does not do the disc release, I hope they at least dub it. I don't want another Shirobako.

I would assume the chances are pretty decent the film will receive a dub with its disc release for home video.

No screenings anywhere in Michigan, Indiana, or Ohio. Northeast coverage is lousy too (two theaters each in NYC and Boston). Nothing in south Florida. Pathetic.

Belle somehow managed to play 2-4 shows a day for six weeks here in Grand Rapids. At this point, I think I'm just going to ignore any theatrical anime release that isn't through GKids. It isn't even worth looking at the theater list with anyone else.

I really enjoyed the Revue Starlight series but I almost forgot about this movie but I'm glad Sentai has licensed it.

It would be nice if they could expand further but you have to have realistic expectations that Belle is a major stand alone studio film by a prominent film director while Revue Starlight is a sequel to a niche surrealist anime that didn't exactly set the streaming world on fire when it came out. It's amazing it's being released in US theaters at all. And you also have to take into account GKids is a much bigger company with more money and resources than Sentai.

they've added a Marcus theater in Columbus, which have very comfortable red leather recliners, very plush. Though that is a bit of a trek from Grand Rapids. And there's still plenty of time to add more theaters

I hope Sentai has has the full license. I don't want a repeat of the Shirobako movie.

They should. I doubt they would license a movie for just one limited showing in theaters.

Chances of an Australian screening pretty much zero, but if this means a bluray release is imminent, that more than satisfies me -- the bluray of the series is excellently done. I'm listening to the movie OST right now and I'm pretty sure it's my favourite 'anime series' movie, ever. It addressed character tensions established and exploited by the show, handled an oversight regarding one particular stage girl not getting her moment, and it evolved all the themes to a level of surreal extravagance expected of a student of the Ikuhara school of WTFness. And unlike a lot of anime series movies, it didn't really have 'stand out sakuga' moments between tv-level production scenes -- the whole thing was gorgeous.

Unfortunately it does sort of rely on having seen the recap movie (or at least what it does differently near the end) but, much like Heaven's Feel 1, this is one of those movies of such superior quality that you want to recommend to ANYONE who likes anime, 'getting it all' be damned.

The Sentai website (courtesy of TRSI) now lists showings in Chicago, Fort Wayne, Columbus and Lansing. Still a long drive from Grand Rapids, though.....
