I'm not sure if they could actually made the ending that much better, the last bit might be a cop-out but it's also the only way they could have showed them (practice) for a final time against each other. Both of them retired and became breeding horses sometime later.

Yup, that kinda ruined the show for me. It's a shame they focused on that after the great Rice Shower arc. |

You guys make it sound a lot better in retrospect than it was to watch at the time. I appreciated their ideas, but the whole "career ending injury, whoah! miraculous recovery" schtick got old after the second time around. Great concept, not-so-great execution.
Rice Shower's arc was indeed the best part of the whole season. |

God lord. Seeing as how much you base your juvenile rant and spite solely on the trainer character and what you believe he's supposed to stand for, you *definitely* haven't seen *a lick* of the second season, because he's even less of a factor in the grand scheme of the narrative. Just do ourselves a favor and watch the second season instead of parroting some dumb opinion about it you've picked up from god knows where. |

I wouldnt actually call it not-so-great execution. It's more like hampered by their decision to follow horse race history to the letter. And that's probably also the reason why Rice won't be a main character (as much I would like a season based around her) and why Silence Suzuka wentspoiler[ abroad] in the first season.
S2 did not even have GBF codes. (it only had codes for the uma musume mobage and the live.) and even if you take a look at other cygames series that bundles GBF codes, they never reached as high as horsies s2 did. So clearly there's something in the show besides codes that people like. edit: and people keep raving on about how it's the gacha and live codes that are the reason but like 99% of current anime includes that with their dvd/bd releases. Makes you think eh. |

I really have a soft spot for Rice Shower. I'm a Boston sports fan and a Chelsea FC supporter. In 04 we played spoiler to the Yankees. On the flip side Eli played spoiler to the Pats(twice). But in 2012 Chelsea beat Byern Munich in their own stadium in the Champions League final. At the end of the day I root for the underdog because they make fans notice them. She gets undeserved hate because she plays spoiler when she should at least be given props for beating top competition. Her story was great.

I liked the first season, and I keep this on my To Watch list, but still haven't gotten to it yet.
I always thought it was odd that the lore held that the horsegirls were direct soul infusions of deceased racehorses, when Special Week was still alive when the anime began airing. And if that's not Takahiro Sakurai voicing that Tenno Sho "Winner" ad, I'll turn in my fangirl card. He may sound even grittier than his The Batman trailer, but his "haru" gives him away. Or, I've gone deaf. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

Didn't they have actual horse legs in the beginning? Or was that just in the game? Or was it just cover art? Who green lights this stuff?

It did seem odd when watching it, but once I learned that it was just following what actually happened (minus the happy ending), I found it more interesting to watch. |

Am I the only one who thinks Symboli Rudolf and Yukino Yukinoshita look almost the same in facial features?
Maybe we should blame fans of Rumiko Takahashi for Trainer, or at least the Season 1 gag of him groping a horse girl followed by her kicking the crap out of him?
Uma Musume: Pretty Derby got a real pass on the Victory Concert compared to the idol dance on ice in Puraore! Pride of Orange.
Anime physics must rule, because at the speeds and distances they are running, an aerodynamic body suit (similar to what speed skaters wear) would be worth a few seconds over the "draggy" flapping clothing they do wear.
We would not really expect to see injured horse girls being shot in this show. That said, world building is next to non-existent. |

Sure "Buddy" but thats how Cygames does things and that's not even Uma Musume's fault. So why would you blame Uma Musume* for that. (And still is unrelated to the success of season 2 ). Wouldn't surprise me s2 only got greenlit in the first place to give a boost to the 3 year delayed mobage that came out a month after s2 started airing. *You could literally replace Uma Musume in your complaint with any non-GBF Cygames show that bundles GBF codes. |

I always thought that this show was far, far better than any show called Uma Musume Pretty Derby had a right to be. It blew my mind when I learned that the race Teio won on her last comeback was based on actual events. That's just wild!
