I don't really see the point of this, considering the series has been on Nozomi's youtube channel completely for free in both dub and sub for almost 10 years. I'm not sure if it's region locked on YT, but it's being region locked on Crunchyroll too so that point is moot.
I guess it's always nice for it to be on multiple platforms?

It’s also available on Funimation. The Youtube uploads are pretty low quality so hopefully if someone doesn’t have access to Funi they can watch the show in a higher resolution. Wish they would upload the Bluray video somewhere.

The license comes from Nozomi and the license for Utena is held by other companies in other countries. Crunchyroll can't just magically override the license of other companies which people don't seem to get.

I think the point of this is that a lot of people won't stumble across it on YouTube - the recommendation algorithm has millions of other videos to steer people at, and people are unlikely to trawl YT looking for a full anime series to watch. They're more likely to do that on Crunchyroll, since that's what it specializes in, and more likely to find Utena since it doesn't have to compete with every cat video on the internet.

Because believe or not all anime fans are a are of what anime’s are and aren’t streaming on what sites (I still remember being shocked when I found out Yu-Gi-Oh was streaming uncut on YouTube and being somewhat bummed when it was removed if I recall correctly).Secondly I’m going to assume if this on YouTube that means you have to site through ads every 5 minutes or so?

I wasn't trying to say that Crunchyroll could override the license at all, I wasn't even sure if the YouTube upload was geolocked to begin with. The HD makes sense though

Just in U.S and Canada? I hope it arrives to CR or Funimation in Latin America, it would be cool if they could make a new Neutral Spanish dub as well, just like what Funi did with Cowboy Bebop and FMA: Brotherhood, Utena's (The Magic Ring as it was called in Lat Am) Spanish dub had a good voice cast but the characters' names and some of the plot was altered, and the show wasn't fully shown in Lat Am TV due to its themes and many episodes of the dub are lost. It would also be cool if they could bring the most original cast as well, since almost all of them are active

It's most likely a Discotek license, so fat chance for that, like ever. And it's always North America and nothing else. And unless something changes or some other company acquires the rights for other countries, it will stay that way.

@tfwnoymir
It is a Nozomi (Right Stuf!) license. They primarily deal in physical media and have had the license for a number of years. The terms of the license undoubtedly reflect that.

Sorry about that, didn't know about the exact company. But what's most important here is that the license only goes to those regions where there's a physical release accompany it as well. Sentai and Funi does that too.
