I definitely like this new season so far. After how badly the Adventure reboot screwed itself over, Digimon needed this breath of fresh air. That being said, there are only two things I don't like about Ghost Game so far.

1. The opening song. Honestly, I hate it. It just sounds so bad, and the main singer can't sing for the life of him! It literally makes my ears bleed!

2. The animation looks really cheap, like it's still in that awkward stage where it's trying to transition from cels to digipaint. Or maybe Adventure reboot's failure slashed the budget a lot.

That being said, I am definitely looking forward to watching more. Also appreciate Digimon having a second lead character who doesn't wear goggles!

Loved the depiction of Mummymon in the second episode. You get a sense that digimon are not necessarily actively malicious, just completely alien in their way of thinking and susceptible to misinformation or misinterpretation of the data available to them. Mummymon sees an exhibit on mummies, and because that's the data he has he assumes that must be how human medicine operates. Which I thought was nicely underscored by Gammamon's own strange way of thinking (how he describes tastes) and how Hiro had to actively work to translate what Gammamon was trying to say.

Definitely gives more texture to digimon as strange digital creatures in a single episode than Colon did in its nearly 70 episode runtime.

Good to see Mummymon again, as I have always been a fan of his design. I also liked the twist that this Mummymon was actually a doctor and was attempting to mummify people due to a misinformed understanding of human biology.

All in all these 2 episodes have been reminding me of some of the side stories from the Cyber Sleuth games, which is great.

So I am an old school Digimon fan, but I was turned off by the idea of this season because I hate supernatural stuff (Like, you know, ghosts). But the review makes it sound like the premise is more like people telling ghost story-like urban legends about Digimon rather than actual ghosts, and I do like mystery and (non-supernatural) horror. Would I still like this show or is it still pretty supernatural-oriented?

So far I wouldn't call it supernatural but there does seem to be a focus on spooky-looking digimon. Technology in the setting has advanced to the point that holograms are commonplace, so digimon are now urban legends.

So far, this season reminds me of digimon tamers.

Gonna be honest here, the evolution sequence is disappointingly and short. It doesn't even hold a candle next to the evos from past series including 2020 reboot. Are the animators getting lazy and tired because they got to no break in between doing 2020 reboot and Ghost Game??

Gammamon is gonna have like 4 champion/adult level forms in addition to whatever the other two partners may or may not get. That alone tells me why it's so simple and brief, especially when compared to Adventure 2020 where only Agumon and Gabumon were the only ones to get proper sequences.

After three episodes, I was finally able to place it: this series feels a lot like Cyber Sleuth. Those two games are probably the best Digimon anything of the last 5-ish years, so I'm pleased they decided to go with a similar feel for a new TV series.

The schedule is below decent from what I heard and doesn't have anything to the budget.

I agree with the comparisons to Tamers and Cyber Sleuth, both of which I enjoyed immensely.

Liking how the newest episode gave us a hint about larger threats being out there. I'm assuming the whole spoiler[let's just talk it out] method of dealing with trouble making Digimon (although in Mummymon's case it was warranted) with be discarded.

Perhaps it may be downplayed in favor of having more screen time for battles, but I wouldn't be so sure. The series director, Masatoshi Chioka, said that "Digimon cause strange phenomena and weird things to happen, The story's gist is how the characters tackle and solve these problems. So trying to defeat the enemy through battle is considered a last resort."

Source here

Now, obviously there are probably going to be battles anyway, just because this is a kids show with transforming monsters and such, but I'm getting the idea that show will be less about blasting the enemies to bits as it has been in previous seasons (or scanning their data to be purified, turned into digieggs to be sent back to digiworld, whatever, you get the idea) and more about de-escalating problems before they get too out of hand. Again, this is a guess based off the director's comment and how the show has been up til now but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more instances of trying to negotiate with digimon this season overall.

Episode 4 very much felt like an homage to slasher movies without actually having any bodily harm.

I would also add this theme of ending conflict without violence isn't new to Digimon as we had a lot of that in Adventure 02 where the Digimon were usually being mind controlled by the Digimon Emperor and it ended with the kids breaking the Dark Rings and the Digimon go back to being good and there's no need to kill anyone. I've been enjoying Ghost Game but I think fans are overhyping how dark it's going to be when Digimon at it's heart is a children's TV show and even Tamers was pretty light hearted for like the first 30 episodes.

It's funny how Toei is more aware of and trying to make a push for Digimon's overseas audience, and then they jump right into Ghost Game which is seeming like it would be hard to dub for the target children's audience - at least in the States. I'd be surprised if any kid's dub could keep the knife scenes. Not complaining though, it's been fun seeing such a different take on the franchise. Would be cool if it gets some kind of dub down the road.
