Really proud of the accomplishment and hope this leads to more shows getting similarly dubbed in the future, especially those that many have lost hope for. With Lupin the Third Part 1 apparently getting a dub (though only the first episode has been officially confirmed I think), Future Boy Conan, and now the original Dirty Pair anime, I really hope this marks a trend for more old shows to get dubbed. Hopefully the Space Adventure Cobra tv anime could get the same treatment in the future, though it might be more difficult with the current licensor. There are a few series that I would gladly pay more than 100 dollars to help dub.

The fact that the Kickstarter hasn’t ended in chaos and mass destruction just shows they’re not properly getting into the spirit of things.
(Okay, seriously, well done.)

I know that RightStuf is under no obligation to explain how much, but I wonder how much profit they will get from this campaign. For a $275k campaign budget, they got over $450k more. Obviously there are royalties and other expenses to be had.

I still feel like the success of this Kickstarter is probably enough incentive for a Netflix or the like to contemplate funding a remake, especially with the Tamaki manga adapting the original light novels right there being localized.
Congratulations to everyone involved. It’s a fun show they supported.

Discotek actually did try dubbing Cobra TV, and the two episodes that were done are included as an extra on the BD boxset, but it was via an "experimental fashion" (that's the most they've really said about it), in an effort to maybe save on costs, and felt that it didn't work out. If Discotek felt that Cobra was worth the costs to dub it traditionally, then it would have been dubbed like that.
Dubbing older anime like this is tough, and not all of them would necessarily see the success of what happened with Dirty Pair. Also, Right Stuf has experience doing Kickstarter campaigns, while Discotek does not (& they're busy enough as it is to really start trying one), which is another thing to consider. As for stuff like Future Boy Conan & Lupin Part I, those dubs are paid for & produced by the Japanese licensors themselves, which explains why those happened. It's not Shout! Factory or Discotek who are paying for those new dubs.
I'm glad to see that Dirty Pair TV succeed to such an extent, even surpassing the Aria Kickstarter campaign, which is honestly rather mind-blowing, but this kind of success obviously can't apply to just any older anime series that people would love to see dubbed.

Yeah, I am all too aware of the unlikelihood, which is why I pointed out it would be more difficult since Discotek only experimentally dubbed the first two episodes (which I haven't yet seen dubbed, but I have seen the full show and the dubbed movie). Since Discotek holds the license and hasn't yet seen fit to dub more (since dubbing expenses cost too much for larger series), it's extremely unlikely that it will get dubbed anytime soon. Whether Japanese funded or American funded, these types of situations are extremely rare, so most likely even the Japanese side is hesitant and worried about their success. But since there seems to be a wave of that happening, including Gunbuster (and hopefully sequels) from Discotek, it could be a sign of more old series getting that treatment.

I only contributed $70 to get the basic BD, but I am so proud and thankful to everyone who contributed.

They were actually pretty transparent on this, they have stretch goals til $620K and anything over is going to make the production process easier, like flying VAs out to NYC and getting the audio from the previous dubs off tapes so it can be mixed into 5.1. I assume some of it is going to be used to pay RightStuf employees who work on the dub/blu-ray as well.

Good to hear they’re being transparent. The issue with Kickstarter’s tends to be the paper trail and resultant product more than the campaign itself.

This makes me a happy panda. Beyond the fact I personally love the old Dirty Pair anime, and Flash as well, I always enjoy seeing older anime like this get love and attention.

Not that I am personally invested in the series, but it is always good to see these type of crowdfunding succeed, especially for older titles. Congrats!

I'm happy that this succeeded. It really deserves this and it's long overdue,in my opinion. Something like this will be worth waiting for. I'm glad that the "Dirty Pair" anime's finally going to get a dub. It's earned it and I hope it's a good one.
