Naoko Yamada and Science SARU? I'm in

Edit: Wait... this is coming out on Funi fall 2021 "one season before it's Japanese premiere", and since it's airing on +Ultra, does that mean Muv Luv is only gonna be one cour??

Naoko Yamada is my favorite anime director so this is probably my most anticipated anime now.

Do you know? If this anime is going to debut on FOD Japan at the same time as it's coming out on funimation, then Funimation won't really debut broadcast the anime sooner than Japan. Unless of course they specified that it was japanese tv in funimation site, which isn't case.

I really hate these misleading advertisements, even though I understand that they are just businesses to enhance their own importance.

This is definitely one to keep an eye on. I'm always a fan of a good historical anime and something tells me this will scratch the same itch that Hyouge Mono (one of my favorites) does.

Really excited about this project! Although I definitely confused it with Tales of the Heike: Inu-oh, also by Science Saru, until I saw Yamada's name pop up.

Is this the first thing Yamada is doing after KyoAni arson? And is it correct to say that she has left KyoAni now?

Not sure if it is correct (since there is not explicit confirmation from Yamada or Kyoani) but yes, it is very likely she has left because I don't think they allow their employees work on shows not done by them

Can't say hearing the news hasn't been shocking to me. Yamada was basically synonymous with KyoAni for years and her no longer working with them is painful, but at the same time it's understandable, given the circumstances. I wish her luck in her future endeavors, and hopefully that means a future collaboration with her buddy Horiguchi again.

As for this title, I'll obviously watch it - one way or another -, the trailer was super good.

Naoko Yamada, Science SARU AND one of Japan's most classic tales? Inject this straight into my veins, please.

The folks over at Sakuga Blog just posted an article on this subject before the weekend. Yes, Naoko Yamada has left Kyoto Animation, and it sounds like the insider rumors suggest this happened at least a year ago.

NAOKO YAMADA’S DEPARTURE FROM KYOTO ANIMATION AND SCIENCE SARU’S PAINFUL REINVENTION: END OF AN ERA, START OF AN ERA?

Incidentally this draft has been sitting there essentially finished for half a year, just waiting for the reveal of the show. Post dedicated to everyone who'll choose to discover Yamada right now & those who will continue to sweep Saru's labor issues under the rug

Whispers that she left, over a year. Specifics about this project, very early 2021

Personally, I'm both sad that she's left KyoAni, and excited to see her working again. Part of me was afraid she might quit the industry altogether, so I'm glad she's still keeping active, even if she had to distance herself from her original "home".
