What neither this review nor the two previous ANN reviews mention is that besides Kondou (who was not only character designer but also animation director) this movie has a bunch more Ghibli staff, mostly artists and animators. I think this explains both why it feels like a Ghibli movie and why it doesn't quite live up to that reputation.

Yeah, this pretty much sums up my feelings about how I felt watching this film when it was mentioned in passing in some ANN article about forgotten anime gems. I enjoyed the first two-thirds much more than the last third, where it feels like I'm just watching a checklist of plot beats happening rather than a story unfolding. It still looks gorgeous, though!

I remember seeing this movie on Nausicaa.net listed under the Ghibli adjacent works. I had no idea that people had touted it as a Hayao Miyazaki written film as well. I really should watch it some day.

I remember watching this a few years ago and found it to be an entertaining but short movie. Ginga kinda rubbed people the wrong way a lot of the time but had a good heart. The character designs had me thinking it was a ghibli movie for a couple of minutes. It's a good watch and a all age groups would probably enjoy it.

It's also on RetroCrush if you prefer their player/service. Nevertheless it's good it's on another service.

It's also available to watch on Tubi TV for all you Canadians out there, and for us Americans, too.

I remember watching this on Amazon Prime a while back and yeah... its definitely an interesting watch but definitely feels like they bit off more than they could chew. Just felt underwhelming by the end.
