Mangaplus has been a godsent service for me. Manga launches in south america are very unpredictable and even popular series sell out super quick (even though I live in the biggest city in the whole damn southern hemisphere...). So it's great being able to read manga officially. I just wish I could buy the missing chapters.

I don't see any ads on this site and there is no paid subscription
How does this site really make money?
Why does shueisha do all this work for free?
(I'm really grateful to them. I'm just curious about how this site benefits them)

I don't know about the website, but in the app, ads appear at the end of each chapter.
I would guess that a lot of the revenue comes from the percentage of readers who pay for other products, like having the first three chapters available for free leading to some readers paying for a service that has all of the chapters or buying the volumes, if either exist in your region. WSJ stuff is popular enough that it likely is profitable. Which is likely why are selective of the Shonen Jump+ titles that are on Manga Plus.

I remember they're doing some questionnaire quite a long time ago. Some questions asked whether readers would want to buy missing chapters and for how much, and other interesting questions for the possible future of Mangaplus. But there's no significant changes since then (I wonder if most people chose not to give money). I would also like to buy some missing chapters. I forgot whether they optioned for subscription model or buying individual chapters/compiled volume in the questionnaire.

Can confirm there is also ads in the website. It's also I'd say minimum, as in one ads per chapter just like in the app.

Yes there is a subscription only certain chapters can be read for free in order to read an entire series without stopping you would need a sub.

You are confusing Shueisha's Manga Plus with Viz's Shonen Jump service. Manga Plus does not have a subscription, while Shonen Jump does. In both places, most series only have the first and last few chapters free, but only Shonen Jump has the other chapters available behind a subscription. Manga Plus is also more global, while Shonen Jump is English language only and in limited markets.
