Does anyone have an idea how popular One Piece is in Greece? I know it barely has a presence in the UK and US, I'm very curious about its popularity outside Japan.

Greek fan here. It was a big hit when it started airing in 2002, even tho with several changes in character names it had no censorship a la 4kids. Was cancelled early. More info like the hilarious name changes. https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/One_Piece_in_Greece |

If only they had known that years later we would have characters with those names. I have respect for trying to emulate "We Are" in their own weird way. |

I'm sorry but I cannot stop laughing at the Straw Hats' loyal vessel, the "Seaworthy Mario." |

Gia! Sekando!
It's 2021 and Japan is hosting the Olympics. Manga/Anime references are at an all time high. I love it. lol If there's a Yu-Gi-Oh! reference, I expect it from a Japanese player since they've had to have read the manga. |

Hello, also Greek fan here. The big three (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach) were always very popular in Greece, along with Death Note. Before them, we had Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and of course Pokemon and Digimon (all those shows were on TV). From the new generation, Attack on Titan is very popular, and I think lately also Black Clover - shounen series tend to do extremely well here. But I think One Piece still remains the most popular one, since it's the longest running and most famous one. Anime in general are actually very popular in Greece. Salonica organizes a lot of conventions (nothing big, but what little we can do, we do, a previous mayor of Salonica once made an effort to cosplay as Sanji) and there is also a greek manga published named R.u.N. (it's about parkour) Popularity has boomed in recent years - Netflix has helped a lot, online platforms like Crunchyroll also. |
