The article is not correct, 486k is only the amount sold by DVD normal edition+BD limited edition (other editions were not reported as they only reported the first place versions, but they do exist as can be seen in pic below), meaning the total amount sold is higher.

I'm wondering that too especially since I heard Uma Musume S2 Vol. 1 broke records as well for anime TV disc sales.

A Musume 2 volume 1 has so far sold around 175,000 copies. I'm sure this is something to comment on.

But personally, I believe ANN wants to focus more on what's important and interesting to westerners. I mean, in general these days there are many, many anime fans who don't care about BD or manga sales in Japan, but which streaming will bring which anime here.

of course, it's just my ponion.

This may be the case but I'm sure most wouldn't mind hearing about something extraordinary like UM's sales

Aren't sales important for all animes viewers ? Since I believe it defines how the anime industry will go.
I mean since the success of K-On, tons of all female cast animes have been created.

Nowadays if I am not wrong most animes we get are : all female/male cast, isekai (with harem usually). I guess that is because they sell.
