Good that they changed their minds
At least they got people to rush buying PS3/Vita/PSP games |

I'm surprised on the back down. I figured it was a pretty reasonable move. I mean I wish the vita got a new version or was continued in anyway since it was never given a chance but oh well. Really all they need to do from here is port as many PS3 exclusives over to modern consoles. THEY WILL OBVIOUSLY SELL. But admittedly a lot of concern was over losing games who's license expired or losing games that you bought.
Those digital games you bought are doomed sooner or later since the only way to save them is if Sony can make them all playable on PS5. Even if they could, which I doubt, they don't really have any good incentive to do it. |

If nothing else, it shows that there is still interest and the Sony doesn't necessarily need to maintain services for older systems if games live on with newer ones. The PSP store is still closing as planned, but the general response seems to be that people are ok with that since most, if not all, PSP games are playable digitally on the Vita. And while I'm not entirely thrilled about the prospects of how it will be implemented going forward, Nintendo sees strong sales for the Switch versions of Wii U games. Even if the system isn't a big seller, that doesn't mean people don't want a good game from it. |

RIP PSP. Emulation and its homebrew scene will keep it alive after Sony. And the Vita for however long it will keep its shop up.

As long as can still buy PSP games from the PS3 or Vita stores, I am okay with this.

They're already keeping PSP alive on the Xbox Series X, among others https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kCtgIwlHFg
Also the Wii for the first time for that matter: https://twitter.com/GrimSimm/status/1383030982870204417 Unsurprisingly, this was achieved with the console's development mode - which has the potential to turn the system into a glorified emulator. To do this, all you need to do is pay $20 USD to access a MS app called Dev Mode Activation on Xbox |

There's still a bunch of games and their DLC I want to download and play, many of the non-mainstream titles never got ps4 versions, so if they would close it, it would really suck to loose the ability to play all that stuff. In some cases like Asura's Wrath you wouldn't even be able to finish the story without the ability to download the DLC for it.
I'm really glad they changed their descision but the question is for how long. I still keep buying and playing some PS3 games I've missed every now and then and I definitely wouldn't have the resources to just mass buy every game and DLC I'm still interested in in just a handful of months in case they announce a new end date next year or so :< Also, just thinking about all those DLC-related trophies, that will became unavailable, locking you out of 100% all those games forever even if you physically own them... This is exactly why I don't like digital content and always try to buy as many games and anime as possible on physical discs or cartridges. |

Now... let's hope they issue a firmware update to address the CMOS issue, wherein the PS3 will no longer be able to play digital games (and the PS4 will stop playing digital AND disc games, essentially bricking the console), when the CMOS battery dies and there is no longer a PSN server for the console to time check with after battery replacement...
Just strip achievements from older games or disable their need to phone home so often to make sure those precious e-penis-supporting (but ultimately USELESS) digital trophies are properly time stamped... i understand i may be in the minority of not giving a shit about achievements and just wanting to have fun playing the games i want to play when i want to play them, not paying $50-$60 for a glorified extended rental that they can end at ANY TIME THEY CHOOSE... if it also means having to drop time-limited demos, then so be it...though i understand the console has to phone home to authorize digital games that are downloaded ahead of street date, so hopefully by the time the CMOS issue becomes a serious problem SONY can figure a work around for that issue... |

Personally, I think this is a bigger issue than the stores closing. As much as I don't like the idea of some games being completely unavailable for purchase, at least that would come with some warning to give people one last chance to make purchases. The batteries themselves are replaceable and the system will still function, but requiring it to synchronize after for trophies of all things is dumb. I don't see any meaningful harm in if the trophies were either disabled or if the time stamp of them was wrong. |
