Crunchyroll attributes all of these to Aniplex of America, but aren't most of these probably licensed straight from Aniplex Japan? AoA's website makes no mention of Idolmaster, Dog Days, etc, so it sounds like Aniplex of Japan is just non-renewing these with CR.
(86 is kinda similar, CR says it's AoA but the latter has never mentioned it on their twitter or website.) |

I really hope someone like Discotek can license Wandering Son, that show is so important to me... I'm going to have to binge it while it's still on VRV then!

It's Aniplex so that won't be happening. |

Sorry to hear about Dog Days leaving because that show never got a physical release in NA.

All of these expiration dates for Aniplex titles ended up being accurate. Note that a few Sentai Filmworks Aniplex titles weren't on Hulu, those have since expired. Those were: Guin Saga, Hell Girl S2-S3, La Corda D'Oro: Primo Passo (note that show has been on CR well before Sentai ever licensed it), Le Portrait de Petite Cosette, and Xam'd: Lost Memories.
Guilty Crown was supposed to expire, but it seems because of the power struggle over the fate of Aniplex USA and FUNimation being owned by Sony (Aniplex is owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan), they were allowed to renew the license. The only possible avenue beyond Aniplex USA at this point is FUNimation and they show no interest in older titles, it's quite uncommon for them to pursue and release titles more than a few years old on home video at this point. |

At least those 2 got a streaming window. The only place to watch Dog Days'' (season 3) in English officially when it was simulcast(on Crunchy) was in a few countries in South-East Asia... I've watched all three seasons a few times, and I'd love for someone to license it in its entirety. But someone on Aniplex's side seem to be hellbent on giving it the Ro-Kyu-Bu! treatment... |

I had been wanting to rewatch Miracle Train, so I guess I better get on that.

OH, GOD, FOUR OF THESE ARE ON MY PLAN TO WATCH LIST! I’LL NEVER GET THEM ALL DONE IN TIME!
EDIT: It has come to my attention that two of them are available on Funimation, which I’m also subscribed to, so there’s that.
Agreed! That could change one day, though, if Aniplex of America decides to finally license it. (I specifically said Aniplex of America because, you know, Aniplex....) Last edited by MischievousMelody on Thu Apr 15, 2021 5:29 pm; edited 1 time in total |

And this is why, while I do subscribe to CR and Funi, I will always hate streaming over physical. One day a deal falls apart and a show that you always meant to start, always meant to finish, or were just getting ready to rewatch vanishes into the digital ether. And there is nothing you can do about it.

To be fair, the same thing can happen with physical media. If a distrib's license isn't renewed, the title becomes OOP. Depending on the title, you'll probably still be able to find it on the secondary market, but generally for a nice little mark-up. And some rarer titles you can't get for love or money. |

Same. Honestly none of the other shows leaving appealed to me (only completed Dog Days and Idolmaster and dropped the rest), but Wandering Son is in my top 5 of all time. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for a physical release here all these years; I guess I should've imported the separate volumes when they were still available as those are all out of print now. |

So will most of these shows get picked up by someone else?

La Corda D'Oro was an enjoyable music show from what I remember and Mitsudomoe was hilarious.
Hopefully Mitsudomoe can get a home release some day |

Won't be surprised if CR will remove all Aniplex animes in the nearly future, because I heard that most of these animes removed by CR are belong to Aniplex. Ironically, CR pick up and stream 86 -- which is belong to Aniplex.
