You literally had Demon Slayer Mugen train as the 4th highest profitable movie in 2020 and still counting, not to mention it gotten big in the international community and its not even in the nominations category? American Biasm at its fullest. Im sorry for the offence but cmon.

Just because the Demon Slayer movie was immensely popular does not necessarily mean it was worthy of nomination. The review on this site seemed to indicate that it wasn't all that special when taken as a stand-alone work. Out of the eligible movies listed, the only one which I think had a legitimate case for nomination was Ride Your Wave. |

Ye a sequel anime movie to a 26epi anime series would never be considered for this.
Oh well, I've only watched soul and wolfwalkers. Hope wolfwalkers wins as I loved it to bits and thought it was much better than the average and overrated Soul. |

Exactly. If box office numbers were the sole deciding factor, then the Transformer movies would've been up for Best Picture. |

Eh, even if anime movies were nominated for the Oscars, we all know none of them will win anyway because people at the Oscars don't care about anime in any way.

Totally saw this coming, especially Demon Slayer. Oscars play huge favoritisms on certain franchises, filmmakers, and ethical issues.
Mugen Train isn't much superior to the Heaven's Feel's movies which are widely praised. But Ghibli films get an oscar nod every time. To critics, Mugen Train is just anime franchise film, and likely not the last Demon Slayer film. Giving Mugen Train a nod is admitting future Demon Slayer films will get a nod and eat up a noimnation slot. If Demon Slayer got an oscar nod, Ordinal Scale and heaven's feel would have as well. Oscars in general only nominate franchise films if they have a history of getting nominated. Avengers Endgame was the most watched movie of 2019, but only raked in 1 nomination vs Rise of Skywalker's 3. Yet Endgame made like 1.5x the revenue as The Rise of Skywalker. The reason is because every Star Wars Film has gotten multiple oscar nominations while MCU films are lucky to get a few. |

You seem to be forgetting that anime has won once for feature (Spirited Away) and once for short (Le Maison en Petite Cubes). Of the other four times that anime movies have gotten nominations, there's only maybe one case where the anime movie probably should have won: • Howl's Moving Castle (2005) was a decent movie but not (IMO) one of Ghibli's best or deserving of the award. • The Wind Wises (2013) had the bad luck to come out in the year of Frozen. • A case could legitimately argued that The Tale of Princess Kaguya was a better choice than Big Hero 6 in 2014. • Mirai (2018) ran into the buzz saw that was Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. (And everyone I've seen comment who saw both agrees that Spider-Man was the no-brainer choice between the two.) Have there been some anime movies which didn't make the cut but should have? Absolutely! Your Name was deserving, and so was Maquia. Sadly, neither one seems like it got seen by enough Academy voters. |

The problem is, rather than American bias, Disney bias. I do wonder how long Disney's tentacles are under the table.

https://www.cartoonbrew.com/award-season-focus/definitive-proof-that-academy-voters-are-ignorant-about-animation-96680.html https://www.cartoonbrew.com/award-season-focus/proof-that-oscar-voters-are-clueless-about-animation-109456.html https://www.cartoonbrew.com/awards/academy-voters-dont-watch-the-animated-features-they-vote-on-and-the-academy-is-fine-with-that-170670.html There's also the fact that in the entire history of the Oscars, only three animated movies have ever been nominated for Best Picture, those being Beauty and the Beast, Up, and Toy Story 3, with the latter two only doing so when the number of nominations was increased to 10, and there was the BAF category. There was also controversy back in 2008 when WALL-E won BAF but wasn't nominated for Best Picture, with some viewing BAF as a way for animated movies to not be able to compete with live-action which in the eyes of much of the Academy, is an inherently superior storytelling medium. |

Honestly, the Oscars are no Cannes and the Animated Feature Award is certainly no Annecy. It isn't even a film festival, it's just the gala where the US' movie industry prizes itself and shows off.
Actually, whether it's Spirited Away or Parasite, when they prize a foreign film like once every 25 years, I find it pretty condescending. To me it sounds like "hey world, we are the best by a wide margin, but wow, once every blue moon one of you lot manages to outdo us. Good job!". They should decide if they want it to be a national or an international film prize and act accordingly. From an artistic point of view, Lu Over the Wall's triumph in Annecy means a lot more than its absence in the Animated Feature Oscar. The rest is marketing. |

Lupin III: The First absolutely should have been nominated. I actually thought it had a slim chance given it’s western appeal. Wolfwalkers 100% deserves its nomination (and hopefully tho unlikely it’s win). Soul will probably win but I’m ok with that.
I’m in the minority of people who felt Mirai deserved to win over Spiderverse but I can’t be a full on contrarian, spider verse is a pretty pog movie. |

Glad we've got the Annie Awards, On Gaku and Ride Your Wave are both under indie feature (along with Wolfwalkers, which should win the Oscar but will not)

At least Wolfwalkers received a nomination, though I think Soul will walk away with the award.

Yep, it's about what I figured would happen, because it's just how it is. Anime movies winning or being nominated is such an outlier that I just go "Okay, cool, I guess" seeing them put up on a list but I never expect any of them to be nominated. Best Animated Picture always ends up going to Disney, with rare exception, so I never have any sort of hope for that to change otherwise.
That said, I think Soul will probably win over Onward. While I haven't seen either film yet, Soul definitely seemed to be the more critical darling compared to Onward |

You honestly can't be serious in expecting a film, which basically requires you to watch a show to even get anything out of it. It was never getting a nom. Not really shocked by none getting nods. Though,I'm a little shocked On Gaku didn't get one, considering that's a film I could see voters gravitating towards. |
