"Complete recovery version?"
I wonder how complete that will be, the content is more extreme than Ishuzoku Reviewers. If it's anything like the uncensored Comic Festa anime, it probably will have it all shown. |

This series is certain to cause a lot of controversy, and Anime News Network welcomes and encouraged discussion of this anime and even the social issues that it touches upon. However rape is never an acceptable punishment and we will not tolerate any posts that even remotely suggest that it is.
Furthermore we will not tolerate posts that take glee in the controversy that this show is likely to cause, nor will we tolerate any posts that appear to be trollish or baiting in nature. Finally, we ask that all posters be considerate of those who may read these threads and have past traumatic experiences. Failure to abide by this will result in immediate and permanent removal from our community. Discussion or criticism of this policy may be made in the feedback forum. While I don't think this kind of material shouldn't exist, what's disappointing to me is that it is considered acceptable/potentially profitable enough to be made into anime.
I will say though that it doesn't bug me in a particular way like Shield Hero was, that title has a very transparent deep-seated hatred against a type of woman in particular. While this title has a lot more objectionable material, it feels more like extreme edge flavor to attract readers. Rui Tsukiyo the author has a few titles under their belt and knows how to write propulsive story that keeps you getting intrigued, unfortunately they have no aversion using extreme edge and super problematic tropes for it. If anyone want to read something with similar edgy flavor while also actually saying something about related social issues read JK Haru is a Sex Worker in Another World instead. |

Without discussing the material or its merit or lack thereof, I’ll say that the company announcing an uncensored version means that they know exactly what they’re getting into.

Sounds like we're in for more baseless accusations of "Western/Sony censorship" when legal sites stream one of the more-censored broadcast versions and bootleg sites have a less-censored version. |

I apologize for any possible offense. I will think more carefully the next time I comment.

Yea, because it's just western moral social warriors in our endless quest to ruin things who might something like rape questionable. (I'm agreeing with you btw) Once this starts airing any comments like that are going to be removed on the spot and not even be given a foot to stand on given the subject material of the show. Speaking of the show, yikes. After checking it out to see what the fuss is about I have serious questions as to how the creator of this found this to be ok. I do not condone any of what happened to the MC, but it's still no excuse to basically turn into the same type of horrible person. There are some things that are simply bad an inexcusable no matter what. I've watched a lot of anime, or read lots of grim dark fantasy novels, that push boundaries. Things that are questionable, but in the context of the setting made sense. The difference for me is when a show, or book, revels in those questionable parts. When they seem to take too much glee in them, having too many instances of them, titillating the material, or turning the material into what comes off as a bad fanfic on a self power trip. No thanks. If others can watch this and excuse it away and enjoy the other parts of the show then good for them. This title seems to revel in the revenge and sexual abuse far too much and I don't need to see that animated. |

Alright, I'll be mature about this.
I'm pretty sure everyone knows what this series is going to be about, and what is expected to happen on social media once it stars to air. I will, in no way, judge the author for their work, it is their creative property and I will not use that as a means to judge their character. That being said, I would LOVE to sit down with them, and just ponder where the inspiration for this series came from, because that is a conversation I want to have. I also have to wonder if questionable content like this is acceptable over in Japan, and if they are aware of the social and political climate the West are in to release such a show. In any case, I may or may not check this out but I will probably stay offline once this starts to air to protect my own sanity. |

Speaking of, I wonder who, if anyone, will be picking it up. After Interspecies Reviewers I can't imagine Funi would since it isn't like that situation where there was an obvious content direction change from the source material. I'd be surprised to see it on HiDive, so I guess that just leaves Crunchyroll between the big 3 NA anime streaming services. Even with the sale they likely still operate independently until everything is all signed and/or Funi could still use them for shows they want to license (as shows like this can still sell), but don't want to be associated with (like Disney and Miramax (formally) had). But could it go too far for even Crunchy? |

A side point to this, when reading up on this story I was surprised the number of people who were familiar with the web novel who felt pulled to it specifically because they, themselves, were a victim of abuse. Like the revenge aspect of it specifically called out to them. I'm not particularly excited by the show (the animation of the trailers is so lackluster, and while what I've read of the web novel has some interesting plot points it felt to me more cumbersome than Chinese web novels with less focus on the power play dynamics) but I have a notion of how it will turn out. People who enjoy the more controversial aspects of this show will likely hype it up as the best thing since whatever cringe thing they were into is, certain people already alarmed about the flags listed on the web novel will decry this anime with extreme prejudice without much context from the show proper, and the media we'll actually see aired will be something somewhere in the middle of the two that hammers down the more problematic elements of the series just enough to be more profitable while still being there. The question to me is in which direction from that middling ground I'll find it. As an aside, I'd place a hedge bet that there is likely to be a specific level of blowback from the show changing too much away from those very elements so that it does find itself aired. After all, this isn't being aired as a sexually explicit series, which itself is quite the departure from the source material. |

I think the best and more wholesome is to just ignore it, it is not a good show, it is so exaggerated that it will only getting Involuntary Laughter

I wouldn't be. If they could stream Qwaser, they could stream this. |

That's what I said about Interspecies Reviewer; it would have fit in just fine on HiDive. But Redo is more graphic than both of those, at least going off the manga I read, so hopefully it's at least Qwaser level of raunchiness, preferably more with the 'complete recovery' version which sounds promising. The discrepancy of budget/animation quality between ecchi and hentai shows needs to be eradicated and I think shows like these can help do that. It's definitely my most anticipated anime of 2021.
According to the producer for Shield Hero in a Reddit AMA, this kind of stuff is never controversial or causes issues in Japan. Which isn't surprising considering there's tons of actual hentai OVAs that are made in Japan with far more graphic content. If those don't bother anyone, then series that aren't even classified as pornography shouldn't raise any concern. |
