As someone with a headset this whole concept seems like the dumbest waste of money. The headsets arent high def enough to actually give a super clear image so its basically like watching a blurry low res bootleg. The entire point of VR is 3d immersion and your going to watch a 2d video in a fake cinema? Stupid.

Na there is literally no downside to them putting these videos on this service and takes no overhead. They just hand off a high def video file to the bigscreen service guys and they take ticket sales. Its literally free money. I just cant understand how a business model like this actually has a consumer base.

I just downloaded the Bigscreen app for my Oculus Rift S, I will try watching "your name" with my VR headset.

If these are movies that aren't available for streaming otherwise then I can see the appeal. I think most people would prefer a regular stream instead of this, but maybe some VR folks would like to make it a group thing? And don't think setting up a discord call is enough?

Not doing traditional streaming of anything and only doing it on VR platforms is business suicide though. People do stream anime in stuff like VR chat for groups of people to watch and shit talk about but its straight up piracy in that case. If they actually charged for it people wouldnt be doing it. But to put it into perspective you can kinda look at it like those rocky horror screenings people do where they get people to play along in the audience. Its that idea but VR.
All i know is when i want to watch something i dont want someone talking and grunting next to me the entire show. Add in the lower resolution from a headset and its just a joke to me.

If you have a Playstation VR headset, you can already do this with any blu ray. It's simply making a fake screen in front of you within a black void, so it lacks some of the bells and whistles, but it does a good job of stimulating a large screen. It's not meant for presenting video with the highest possible fidelity, but you can watch your anime blu rays on what feels like a 90 inch screen. It's a neat curiosity you can try out if you have a PSVR unit.

Yeah, I've used it to watch some things, but it gets old quickly.
I imagine good group-streaming tools, even just better incarnations of video synchronizing for various accounts, is the future of streaming. I'm really surprised it's not been pushed more beyond Netflix party. Saw some plug-in for sync-ing Crunchyroll, might have to give it a try.

The PSVR is the red headed stepchild of VR though. It was pushed with sub par hardware running on a restrictive console without any major support. It was doomed to fail. VR is still very niche but the PSVR is by far the worst example of it and not a good bar of quality.

The PSVR is one of the best pornographic experiences you'll ever have in your life with some imported games so I'm not sure why people would regret money on such a thing spent over games. Realistically, VR simulation was never really meant for practical gaming as much as pronz.

While PSVR doesn't have the power or depth of other platforms, it has the benefit of being far cheaper than the other options for a good while. The Oculus Quest has closed that gap a lot, but for around three years, PSVR has been a very cost effective method for getting experiences you couldn't before.

While some will not use the service due to fidelity issues, it is still a neat service. As technology gets better and better, so to will the service.

Yeah, I don't understand why Funimation blocks the rights to titles in Latin America, we missed out so many series, and now it seems like they're dubbing My Hero Academia in Neutral Spanish, but instead of dubbing the show with the actors who voiced them in the movie (we only got Two Heroes officially dubbed), which was dubbed in Mexico DF, they sent it to a small studio in Miami (there're some good actors involved, but cast for Two Heroes already did a good job). At least Viz and Sentai Filmworks do license some titles in Latin America, even 4Kids did it back in the day, but not Funimation.
