Almost 3 months? Something must have gone pretty far off the rails if it needs that much time.

I would argue it’s similar case with Girls und Panzer and God Eater, surly they can finish the episodes faster than late Mid-March, but they have to wait some Winter anime to finish in order to get the airing block.

I was worried when they announced this anime that Bibury might be biting off more than such a new studio could chew, & sadly that seems to have been correct. I'm glad they've managed to keep the quality problems mostly under control thus far, but taking a break is probably the best thing for the series at this point. I hope this doesn't blemish Bibury's reputation too much, most of the episodes have had stellar visual quality, episodes 5 & 6 aside.

I imagine the bigger issue is that they need to redraw the whole thing, not just two episodes. Animation in Azur Lane is bad. Like, Mobile Suit Gundam memes bad. It's not so much off-model as a lot of scenes descend into all-out excitable doodling. It has reached the point where 2ch have been bouncing around a conspiracy theory that Kadokawa Shoten are actively interfering with the studio's attempts to hire more animators because they're salty over Azur Lane mounting a convincing competition against KanColle.

You know the show's condition is something else when not only did the fans come up with a conspiracy theory to explain why it looks so bad, but the theory in question sounds actually plausible.

To be honest, I don’t think Azur Lane looked that bad to me and in fact I liked a lot of the fight scenes in the show. So it’s disappointing to hear the finale is being delayed and for so long. Are people going to still remember this show by March?

I'm a fan of the game, and I've been really enjoying the anime. If it's to improve the quality of the animation, then I feel the delay is good. For the most part the action scenes have been well animated, but I agree that episodes 5 & 6 were pretty weak.
I can wait till march if it means that the animation will be improved. Smile

The Japanese audience almost certainly will, given those episodes will come at the end of a rebroadcast starting next month.

As for those of us outside Japan, it's only 3 months. Those who aren't watching it right now might forget, but I expect most watching now will remember one season from now. I'd say no more people watching now will forget about the show than if instead Netflix had picked up the show and streamed it in March. Like, I don't think people's memory is that bad that they couldn't remember a show that they watched after only one season. Whether people will actively discuss the show on social media and forums in the meantime is another story, which is to say it is not the same as people remembering the show.

Also why the hell would they go with such a newbie studio Azur lane is one of the top selling games out there you're telling me they could not get a more professional studio to do the job.

What story? Azur Lane is a boat-waifu collection game "Commander! We're going to engage the Sakura Empire at Midway, Uguu!" isn't really a plot, so I fail to see how they can ruin it.

No idea really, unless it's just a Japanese national pride thing that they don't want to let a Chinese company crush Kancolle. That'd be incredibly petty though.

I hope the hardcore fans will enjoy it when it comes out, but in all honesty, while I liked the show well enough, I'm not going to be checking my calendar three months from now to remind myself about a finale for a show I thought was just ok when by then I'll have moved onto other better shows. Like if I happen to see Funimation tweet about it on their Twitter feed when it comes out, I'll probably watch it, but I'm not going out of my way to keep tabs on it.

Personally, I'm just going to keep the show in my queue on Funimation, so that when the episodes come out, they'll just show up at the top of their Roku app with the rest of the stuff that's airing then. It's not like I'm going out of my way to keep tabs on it.

Look, I'm not telling you that you have to watch it, just that I think the idea that everyone who's watching it now is going to completely forget after only three months is overly pessimistic.

Because of the way TV slots are booked, it's virtually impossible to delay something for more than a week or two without it having to be held over so it fits into the end of the next season, so around 3 months.

Episode 4 and 8 looked subpar as well.
