Looks like Discotek had no plans to bring back Martin Blacker for the role of "Joe Saeba" and Pamela Ribon as Kaori after all.
Well, I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.

We tried (and spoke about this on the panel), but Pamela Ribon now works at Disney/Pixar and was therefore no longer available. Martin Blacker couldn't be found at all. And I believe at least one other recurring character's ADV voice is sadly is no longer with us.
So after that it was decided it was better just to start over with a new cast.

I never watched the City Hunter franchise (on my watch list; seems like something I might like)
Can anyone confirm if this movie is a remake/reboot or an actual sequel or side story?
Setting in the modern day makes me think it's a fresh start (and maybe a good place to jump in) and I suppose the new English cast is a valid reason even though attempts to get some of the original cast happened so it would be its own separate canon I guess.
Or is this an original story not based on the manga? (filler)

City Hunter is sort of like Lupin in that each adventure is episodic and self-contained and that nothing really changes. It’s “another adventure” and I don’t think anyone seeing CH for the first time will have any trouble with it.

Wow, so Blacker practically just...vanished off the face of the earth?
It's too bad as I've enjoyed his antics during the ADV dubs of the OVAs and movies and I believe Hojo Tsukasa himself hand picked Blacker for the role of City Hunter?

I've never heard about the casting before, but yeah we would've loved to get him back. Alas, we couldn't find hide nor hair of him.
