Kind of a broad area the magazine's stretched itself into.
The topics are loosely connected to each other, but it seems like they're trying to cover too much ground at once to obtain a bigger appeal while diluting itself at the same time...

No clue, but at this point I'm doubting it, considering that they cut the price in half.

I have a year gift subscription so its not like I have a choice in the matter but my impression is pretty much the same. Its too broad and stretching over too many areas but I won't know completely til the first issue comes. Change can be good but hopefully they won't disappoint and keep the content strong.

PiQ will drop Newtype’s right-to-left Japanese reading orientation in favour of a standard left-to-right orientation. Essentially, the otherworldy Japanese “object” that was Newtype USA is gone, to be replaced by something that very-much resembles Wizard in size… and in tone. |

I'm feeling Otaku USA and Anime Insider vibes from this new magazine. All too similar to one another.

As long as it's better than EGM, it might be worth a shot. I just want them to finish the Cromartie manga, though.

Funny... Someone mentioned over at AnimeonDVD that ADV should've put in a column about Britney Spears to help boost sales...
That seems more like to happen now...

I...I...I can't believe this. I used to love Newtype-USA. I could read a issue and find at least 5 more animes if not more that I wanna see. When I heard the horrible news about the mag being canceled I couldn't believe it. I am starting to fear more that anime is starting to disappear... I still haven't come down from Geneon leaving for good. Now the new mag sounds like a piece of crap. That was the best magazine I ever read about anime. It had everything and I found alot of japanese music artists that I really enjoy now listening to because of that magazine. I also found out about manga and video games that I wanna get...But now they are gone and I can't find what I want to anywhere else. I have looked at other anime magazines and read all of them but none are like Newtype-USA.. I really wished I could read japanese because I would totally buy the jp one off the net.. no matter the cost.. >.> I'm completely speechless about this and have no idea how to take this anymore. I am a huge fan of anime and I have broadened my likes majorly due to that magazine. I even watched EVA to see what all the hype was about from reading about it in a issue, I also wanna see Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny... and before I would of never thought to watch them. I got to read what the storylines were about and fell in love with what I read... I really hope someone, no matter if its not now, but in the future soon picks up where AD Visions left off with their mag and makes on to let people know about all the different type of animes coming out. I am more interested in reading about animes coming in Japan than in the US, only because of the fact most animes I wanna see that have been released in the US suck from the horrible dubs, making me only willing to watch the original japanese versions even if it is fansubbed. Death Note is a awesome anime and they botched the VAs; same with Naruto (compared to the jp actors...). Bleach (I prefeer jp more), One Piece (awesome in japanese), Tsubasa (omg awesome in japanese) the english one is horrible... Sakura sounds too much of a little girl when she's so strong of a character, and many many more... Now I have to find out about all the animes somewhere else which is getting harder and harder to do now... I am very disappointed in the companies now... Anime is a huge part of alot of peoples lives... and its slowing starting to disappear... and I really hope I'm wrong about this (but with things like this I'm usually right).. I ain't saying its gone for good or anything, just that its getting harder and harder to find what you want anywhere but the internet... And now the magazine going... and the new one sucking horribly.... I'm really scared...
I am definately not going to keep my subscription to that mag at all.... ; ;

I don't like how it says "Formerly Newtype USA" on the cover. This is definitely not a mirror or a replacement for Newtype USA and they shouldn't be allowed to use that name to sell PiQ.
Sorry to be negative here but this magazine doesn't seem very appealing. There are so many other magazines that cover similar topics that I can't see PiQ lasting very long at all. It's going to be an uphill battle to win readers over, plus there are going to be Newtype USA subscribers who won't like this format. I already talked about what I liked about Newtype USA in the other thread, so no point repeating it here. So long, NTUSA, good luck anyway, PiQ.

Geh. The price and decreased size are fine, I think that's great (assuming it's still color). But more emphasis on US Comics, video, fashion, and gaming? Please, that is NOT what I read Newtype for.
Agreed that it's sounding a bit more like Otaku USA or AnimeInsider. That is NOT a good thing. I preferred Newtype because it actually had some degree of quality and proper editing, and it covered series and aspects that I actually cared about.
If the mag is worse, I will voice my complaints by buying a lot less.

Good thing they're giving two PiQ's per one New-Type USA for subscribers given the cost differential per issue....
Others have beaten me to the punch when it comes to expressing the following sentiment and have probably put it better. Just the same, here are my two cents.
I bought NT-USA primarily for the demo disc: if there was something on it of interest to me, I happily took it home. The large images and previews of stuff coming down the anime pike was icing on the cake. But this...this seems about as ho-hum as it gets.
I'll certainly pick up a copy and browse through it and judge it then. But I'm certainly not excited about the prospect.

So much for it being another anime magazine, huh?
For one thing, it bothers me whenever the fandoms of anime and video games are thrown together, because it's always at the expense of anime coverage. At least, it happens in all the college anime clubs. "Oh, it's a Japanese culture club now, so it's anime and video games. So not only do we pretend that Japan has no more culture than anime and video games, but we'll be playing DDR and fighting tournament games most of the time, and screening anime maybe one day a month."
With anime and manga consisting of 25% of that magazine's coverage, you can bet most of the rest of it is the miscallenous crap which pollutes other geek mags that tried to focus on one thing.
Of course, not having read it, I can only speculate. It just doesn't seem very promising.
