But, man, this is what I'm talkin' 'bout when I say there's more going on in Japan than the U.S., animation-wise. These are the kinds of styles you might have once been able to get in American animation, right before the artists were forced to do Disney/Pixar knock-offs to survive.

I like the one from Takeuchi best.

There's no point in waiting for that website to upload those films. The third season can be found on YouTube. I recommend the one from Shinkai (funny) and Maeda (totally crazy).

Well, they can be free in their style for those specials but normally this isn't Japanese mainstream animation. Usually Japanese animation is even more restricted in artistic freedom than American.

I like Murata's and the one where the artist is drawing the backgrounds the best.

Man I hate how these are direct streaming with no buffering allowed. If the Japanse server is busy, it really ruins the experience. Luckily I got to see most of them fine.

Also, not a big deal, but ANN might consider putting the kanji next to the names in the article so that we know who is who's. I recognize Oshii and Murata, but the rest I had to figure out by looking at the few words they put in english on the profile by checking them against the encyclopedia. Only the shows they list in the profiles are not the same as the ones that listed next to their names in the article. Plus some of them have worked on the same stuff.

Thank you very much, that information is very interesting.

With "artistic freedom" I meant that American animation seems to be more diversified when it comes to different styles and such. I defined the "restriction" of Japanese animation by Japanese design standards that all are very similar (at least in mainstream animation).
