Isn't there current only one yuri magazine which is neither shonen/seinen and shoujo/josei? This magazine, so far as I know have pretty equal male-female readership (maybe slightly more male)? Or they will be discuuss yuri published only in shoujo/josei magazine? Plus wasn't Bloom Into You (shonen) most popular 2018 yuri anime after Citrus? |

If we are talking about modern yuri, then specialized magazines are mainly focused on the female audience, while outside them most of the works are published in seinen and josei publications, depending on the purpose of the author. For example, pronounced feminist works are likely to be published in the josei editions, while mainstream romance in seinen. If you are interested in the percentage of readers, and not the intended audience, then according to the latest surveys, Yuri Hime audience is 70% female and 30% male. |

Wasn't that survey back in 2008? I'd imagine it's shifted quite a bit about a decade later. |

@Super_M A survey conducted 2-3 years ago showed almost the same figures with a slight increase https://ddnavi.com/interview/420470/a/?doing_wp_cron=1557424874.0369820594787597656250 If I remember correctly, this was the reason that Yuri Hime’s male version release was canceled and male-oriented works was returned to the parent magazine. I am not an expert on the Japanese market, but personally I think that the matter is more in Yuri Hime’s strong reputation as a shoujo edition than in the popularity of the genre itself. That is why, when male-oriented YuruYuri turned out to be the most financially successful work in the magazine, this caused some controversy. |
