that......

was the coolest trailer i've seen since way back in the day.
for one thing, they really make it look cool. but then again, there isn't any proof that its even coming to america. i mean, who is to say that it will ever cross the shores. i mean sure, you'll eventually be able to import it and maybe we'll get lucky and they'll attach subtitles, but no one can predict it.

basically, all of the RPG fanboys screwed it up though. too many people e-mailed Squaresoft saying, "if you don't make a sequel to FF 7, we'll stop buying your games." from the interviews i've read, they got so many e-mails like this, that they decided not to make the sequel a game (just to piss of the RPG otaku). and to top it off they're considering not sending it across seas.

so saying stuff like, "it better be good" doesn't even enter the picture. we don't even know that we'll get the chance to find out how good it is in the first place!

This looks very promising, and I hope it lives up to the hype... Wink

Actually, in an interview (I'll have to find look it up later) it has already been stated that there will be a US release. I'm pretty sure that same interview gave a target release date as well. When I find the interview I'll post it here.

Sufice to say, just like all of the FF games and videos before it, Advent Children will be coming to America.

Did this change? It was initially listed at 60 minutes.

There is more news as the days go by, but here is a link to an english language site that is keeping track of all the news and information relating to the movie.

Orignaly the movie was indeed set at 60 minutes, however that has been changed to 70-80 minutes. The theory running in various forums is that the 60 minutes was set as an encouragement to keep costs low, and that outlook has since changed. The Japan release is set for some time summer of 2004 and a tentitive US release of winter 2004. However, it is unkown if the release will be sub/dub or sub only.

Well, they've been redubing the games so I'll wager they'll be doing a sub/dub release in the US.

True, but isn't 3~6 months a tight time table for a good English dub?

But how long is it taking them to make the entire movie in Japan? All they have to do for a US release is redo the voices and a couple other things. They don't have to worry about all the animation and re-creating it.

6 Months wouldn't be all that tight at all for a 70+- minute movie. There's also no real telling just when dubbing would start on it. For all we know Square is handling everything themselves and marketing it like they would a game rather than a movie. Hard saying. Just between the time frame of starting it and releasing it in japan they seem to be working miracles. As of October 2003 they were only 10% done, judging by the new shots and characters they've added it would seem like they're now about 20-30% done. To have everything done and released in Japan in less than a year would make it seem as though an english dub could be completed in far less that 6 months.

Personally, I'm expecting a few delays, but seeing as how this is streight animation for them and not game programing they can probably do a lot in a time crunch. These are people used to having complete games done in a year, a CGI movie shouldn't be too much of a task for them.

but if this is successful, i hope they make other movies too. really, back when they started making The Spirits Within, this is what i thought they were going to do, but then they took the artistic approach.

i've been saying for years that FF 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 had stories good enough and long enough to be made into an awesome anime series and/or series of movies. especially FF X-2! the cut scenes that they place in these games are so awesome, complex, beautiful, etc. that i personally believe they deserve to be expanded upon and put on video for posterity.

i mean, i could almost give my right arm to see Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross get the kind of treatment that FF 7 is getting now.

I dunno, being designed by Akira Toriyama I'm not all that sure that Chrono Trigger would look that great as a CGI feature. Now if they could do a super high quality cell shaded movie of the likes we've never seen then that I could get behind. Chrono Cross on the other hand would translate perfectly since the CGI for it was alrady very well done for it's time.

They could always convert the CT character designs to model the CC ones. Though sadly, as Square fans know, the Chrono series has beed sadly abused. I don't think it's likely they'll give it something like a movie.

abused? how so?? i don't understand why you would say it was abused. do you mean that you don't feel chrono cross was handled properly? (because if so, then i agree)

when they made Chrono Cross, they might as well have called it something completely different because it had SO little to do with the original. sure, towards the end the connections became more apparent, but they just didn't appeal to me.....

but that doesn't mean the story was bad. it was good! and it would translate great into different formats.

(but you're right. that might not be so hot an idea after all)
