Waaaait wait wait wait, hold the flippin phone. How did fairy tail get the first place for the weekly episode ranks? Did the filthy casuals get a voting flash mob together last week?

Wow, that is pretty shocking.
Maybe it was a genuinely great finale? I haven't been invested in Fairy Tail since season 2 or so, and so I haven't tried to keep up with this season, but long-running shounen tend to have a significant advantage in finale arcs, in my opinion, if only because they have had so much freaking time to build up the investment of the viewer in the relationships that're at long last hitting Charizard status.

Not really a finale, but it was a good episode nonetheless, detailing an important part of the main antagonist's backstory and the titular guild's history. It was probably helped by the fact that while it has been a very competitive season, few episodes really did much above 4.5, so small differences in preference could push it over the top, at least on the final episode of the ranking season, which is counted twice (and indeed you'll see the episodes other point at 6th).
