Sorry to be knitpicky, but isn't his name Yukito?
Thanks for reviewing this movie! I saw part of it and am buying the DVD. From what I saw, Misuzu's character appealed to me more in the movie *I'm not a big moe fan* and I kinda liked that the movie had direction. The series, it felt like we were drifting around, in a stream of consciousness sense, even spoiler[after the Summer arc ended and t felt like we were moving towards a goal and had a specific relationship to follow, I just felt like it was kinda...murky. The same for Yukito and what his true feelings were regarding Misuzu.] Still, I love the TV series' visuals and I like the time devoted spoiler[to the other characters and the past arc. And I enjoyed the focus on Haruka and Misuzu towards the end, even if I found it fell flat for me. ]It's good to have a heads up and know I should expect a little different for the movie. I'm looking forward to buying and watching this though, and I'm glad ADV took a chance on these shows. |

Hear, hear. There isn't even in insert card in the case for the DVD chapters. This is the most bare bones anime release I've come across in recent memory. I think I'm being spoiled by Funimation. Another point about ADV's work that fell into disfavour with me with regards to this DVD: The constant insertion of English translations of the most mundane things. I'm sorry ADV but I don't need to see three instances of the English word "Festival" on screen each time the red festival banners are shown on screen. I swear that happened approximately half a dozen times through a movie. Cluttering up the screen that way is something I don't appreciate and I feel it comprises the artistic integrity of the work. As for the film itself I do agree that the ending felt rushed. All in all the movie does quite well until the point where the pace of the story picks up. I do wonder if the movie will make the same impression on people who haven't watched the TV series. I should lend this movie to my sister who is one such person and see what she says. Maybe she won't notice the rushed ending or the other thing that sort of irked me: the frequent use of still art that featured prominent depictions of rays of sunlight. That was something I didn't quite get used to either. |

I was really disappointed with the film version since I felt that the Misuzu and Haruko relation worked much better in the television series for some reason. I think it is due to the lack of development of Haruko in the film.
I also didn't like how the flashback story plays in the movie compared to the Air specials and mid episodes. spoiler[I hated the romance in the movie between Ryuya and Kannabi, I hope I'm getting the names right, and really enjoyed the terminal Ryuya and Uraha connection in the television series. The later made more sense to me and ties together the plot with Yukito.] |

Saw this movie long ago in Japanese. I didn't really enjoy it as much as the TV series, but it was still worth a watch. There were a lot of changes, though one glaring difference is that Hikaru Midorikawa did the voice of Yukito instead of Daisuke Ono. I have to say that much like with RaXephon, it's hard to squeeze an entire TV series' story like that within a movie's limited frame and expect to see it turn out well. The Air movie did score pretty good for me, it had more drama than I expected, but it's still interesting to see how they squeezed the whole thing together.
