Oh, God I hope she's doing okay.

She's my favorite J-pop artist!

It's like Japan has the same back luck we've had here in the U.S. with all the fires, quakes, and hurricane madness (in addition to the shootings, which are not one of their problems thankfully). I hope they're going to be okay from all of this.

Last one says:

Everyone, thank you for your concern! The rooms were bad with scattered glass, plates, and CDs that fell off the shelves, but they were put away from the hand. Water is also saved in preparation for the time of the interruption, and there is food, too! My parents live close to me, so I spend time with them! So it's okay!

KEY, Mami Kawada, and basically any other singer you can think of that may have been in the area have also all checked in. Everyone I can find with a twitter, has checked in or wasn't near the affected areas.

The fires are easily preventable for the most part. I took those Smokey the Bear PSAs to heart; why don't others? Only YOU can prevent forest fires! The hell?

Hurricanes can easily be quashed by building offshore wind turbines. Build some offshore wind farms and you'll prevent future Katrinas, Sandys, Irenes, and Marias. They'll provide clean, renewable electricity while knocking the wind out of the storms. They'll also provide breeding ground for pinnipeds (seals, sea lions, walruses), birds, and other animals; life finds a way.

Earthquakes and volcanoes: It's great that these voice actors and other people are still in one piece (no pun intended). We have to remember that Japan, like the west coast of North and South America, is situated along the Ring of Fire. It's called that for a [expletive] reason. It's so damn geologically active it's insane. Japan sits along the convergence of the Eurasian, Pacific, North American, and Philippine tectonic plates so of course they're going to have earthquakes and volcanoes. They're the Iceland of eastern Eurasia but with tentacle porn and more variable weather, getting better the further south you go from Hokkaido.

Now, I live in Delaware, and the East Coast of the U.S. is well away from any major fault lines. We rarely have any earthquakes and even then it's just minor tremors at most, no harm done. And you can forget about volcanoes, at least for many hundreds of thousands to millions of years from now. Geologic time is far longer than any person's lifetime. We've had little crustal overturn since the Jurassic period, during the explosion of dinosaurs (represented today solely by birds). And we won't have any for many more millions of years.

Yeah, it was rough enough being in Hakodate yesterday with no power, no cell service, and only one real way off of Hokkaido. Sapporo had it much worse.

It doesn't at all. In fact, her tweet specifically says that they were safe.

Glad people are safe and casualties are low. Wish I could send them support to help rebuild.

Afraid you didn't look in deeply enough into the Engineering feat of that article.

To reduce the energy of a Cat 3+ Hurricane, the wind turbines act like trees in slowing down surface winds. The 78,000 turbines isn't a small area, you are looking at thousands of square miles worth of Wind Turbines (the area half the size of Delaware!). And current wind turbines cannot survive well in Cat 1 Hurricane force winds.

BTW there are no seals, sea lions, or walruses in the Gulf nor the Atlantic Coast. Unless you go to Sea World Razz

@Clyde_Cash

East Coast earthquakes while uncommon are not unknown. One centered in Virginia a few years ago was strong enough to knock masonry off the National Cathedral and shut down the Washington Monument for a couple of years. One that causes problems in Delaware is not impossible.

Except the fires we've had in Cali were caused by a mix of dry brush and hot weather, not some careless idiot not putting out their cigarette or forgetting to smother their campfire. The other catalyst was an electrical spark caused by a faulty machine.

As for major hurricanes and earthquakes, they're powerful, plain and simple. They can easily toss around and rip our little human toys to pieces. You shouldn't be so quick to write them off.
